Ok, that's a good enough description ...

But I'm afraid I have bad news for you unfortunately ...

As it sounds like you have the "Genie 2" "headless server." Or specifically the model "HS-17", which is the "tower looking thing."

Therefore, and believe me much to the complaints of many customers, DIRECTV only allows the addition of clients on a Genie 2 account.

So if you want to use another receiver or DVR for camping, then you must open a second DIRECTV account with the additional expenses involved of course.

Sorry to say ....

Is the reason for this to stop sharing of services or having more than one Address per accounts? IE one address is the house and one is the fishing site?
Hence per the contract and service terms you need a 2nd account which cost more?

Thank You HoTat2, I figured I made bad deal ,for me anyway, I still have 1 of the old boxes he did not change out, it on my back porch I not be lucky enough it would work at my fish camp would I?

But the DIRECTV system almost assuredly deactivated that receiver when the technician closed-out the job order is the problem.

Just because he left the receiver behind is irrelevant as it was probably too old and DIRECTV doesn't want it back anyway. The point is it's de-authorized though and DIRECTV will not re-authorize on your current Genie 2 account.

You could take the HS17 and a mini with you, but that might be awkward. In addition, the dish has to be a swm type. That means there is a swm lnb on the dish. If you have an older setup in the camper, it's likely not a swm setup.

Good idea. Take BOTH the HS17 and genie with you, genies are small. I assume you have a wireless genie mini. It should just then work. You need both boxes.
Does the Dish LNB need updated for the HS17 to work is my question.
If you dont have the Genie wireless you may also need a switch?

If he has an old round dish it might be more involved than that - he's going to need a Slimline if not now certainly before the end of the year.

DIRECTV has never "officially" explained why this policy decision for Genie 2 accounts.

Possibly fraud prevention against "account stacking" and lending out activated receivers to friends and family. Possibly trying to simplify stock to mostly support only server-client type installations.

Unknown for sure ...

Whatever their reasons, it's a real pain in the "you know where" to the RV, camping, tailgating, crowd. ...

Me again, I have another question, I will call DTV and get another account at my fish camp with same service I have at my home base. It can not be wireless as at my home is. I will want 3 boxes, My question is can I jump a wire from my box in bed room to my tv on porch to watch same programs as in bedroom? thank You

Doesn’t DTV have something like Dish Anywhere? Any internet service camping?

Dish Anywhere and similar products deliver TV from your home set up over the Internet.

nope. the dtv app does not allow mirroring to a tv. after march 3rd there will be more changes making it less useful for many. but since its satellite tv service, and many users have no internet, well will anyone really care?

I make heavy use of Dish Anywhere, for lunch at work and on the road.

Oh well, it was a thought. Schlepping might be it.

Also, remember, If you do this, you'll be without service at your Home.
