I'm wondering what is in the future or if any Dish Network Business customers have been approached by Dish to put a Terrestrial Ground Station on their Commercial Property, so Dish can use/test their new Ground station technology to Narrowcast wireless data and or video etc, via Terrestrial Spectrum Dish Purchased at the FCC UHF Auction.

Good ol' Spencerport!! There's a golf course I used to play at up there all the time, but I can't remember the name of it.

Anyway, what specifically are you asking? What the setup is, why it's being done or what's in it for the business owner?

They did that with the retailers. Going after business customers to do this would be a logical move as Dish could pay them by offering free service.

I play Twin Hills a lot and I used to play Braemar, although I had a bad experience a couple of years ago at Braemar, so I don't go there anymore.

Anyway Dish called me out of the blue and asked about doing a site survey. They showed up Tuesday, what they want to do is to install a Satellite downlink and a KU Band Transmitter dish to beam a signal to a secondary location (also on my property) where they will install a Terrestrial OTA transmitter using either UHF spectrum or Other OTA FCC Spectrum Dish has licenses for.

Dish wants to install the Downlink and sidelink on one of my buildings with a Flat roof, and then the OTA transmitter on a separate building away from the downlink and sidelink Dishes.

Apparently Dish is under the GUN from the FCC to start testing and or building facilities to use this FCC Spectrum or Dish may lose the spectrum. What they seem to be planning is using Satellite transmission to a local facility to then send Data or Video over terrestrial spectrum so the signal can be received by any standalone device within the line of site of the Terrestrial Transmitter without a Dish or any other separate receiving equipment.

There are specific Setback distances between the Downlink, and Sidelink as well as the Terrestrial OTA antenna. Secondly the Sidelink can interfere with other Satellite receive only Antenna near to the sidelink, ie DirecTV, Dish Dishes, or any other receive only satellite equipment.

I'm hoping I can work a deal to get Free Commercial Service, and or other concessions. The Technicians seemed happy with my site for their equipment, I'm now waiting to hear from the Business unit to see what they can offer me.

If they didn’t explain it to you, if you agreed to be a test site, They’ll give you a first generation hopper for free and top 120 package for free. If you need Joey’s, for additional TVs, those would come out of pocket. Since the receiving antenna is also on your property, you’ll get $500 for hosting that antenna. The unknown is if that’s a one time payment, or recurring. Then harbor and programming is completely separate from the wally they’ll be using to transmit data from site to site.

Also, as far as the interference from the DBS And the data transmission, part of the survey is to make sure that everything can be mounted without any interference

How much electricity do those things use? Separately metered?

That’s it? A crappy hopper and a crappy Tv package?

Should be a Hopper 3, up to 3 additional joeys and at a bare minimum America’s everything pack and a Porn channel.

Cell sites go for over $1000/mo, and Dish is trying to use your property to meet their FCC deadline for what amounts to a song and a dance.

The $500 is likely a one time payment, I couldn’t see cheap Charlie offering $500/mo and paying for a complementary Dish service.

If you want HBO, are you expected to pay for it?

Nobody is forcing him to take the deal. If he doesn't like the deal, he doesn't have to take it.

I know, but that seems like such a lowball offer I actually would find it insulting if they made an offer like that to me.

But to each his own I guess.

I guess some people might say “hey I get free Tv and don’t have a bill”

But that’s really taking advantage of people.

Look up cell tower leases and see what people get.

It's TEST site, for crying out loud. No one is giving away the farm for a test site.

For a business, it's not the same experience as a home. It's stripped own o most of it's apps, DVR ability, etc and businesses rarely change the channel. To just turn it on and leave it alone, it's decent.
