Directv has an app you can stream with also.. Why replace dvr's with clients... To keep things the same Same playlist and interface

it only streams to a mobile device, not a tv

dvrs add timers, space, and tuners

If you need more than 100 timers and 2TB of storage... you are already in a different class. Most people dont need that.. Which is why the HS17 fits the mold perfectly

or any family with 2 or 3 kids, and no streaming options

You cant use PIP on a HR24 anyway

As long as the HS17 doesn't fail since you can't have a DVR as a backup.

my hr34 died once, i used my hr24 until i got a new genie
it does happen

Rather I have had a HR44 first, then a 54 now a 17 Within that 7 years none of have failed..
I'm glad to hear that none has failed. There are plenty that have and if your HS17 fails, you are SOL until it gets replaced.

If you're going to recommend something or bash something it would be nice to state why. I mean, what exactly does "too confining" mean?

I've had an HS17 with 2 C61Ks and 2 wireless minis for almost two years. It's fine. I have absolutely no complaints and I've seen just about every model of receiver and DVR as an 11-year customer.
I will not give up my "other" recvrs ... I need them when I go camping or tailgating ...
D* doesn't seem to think about THOSE people they are taking services away from.

And if it should happen to go down when something important is on ...
There isn’t anything that important on. Unless they are airing trump pressing the nuclear button or Jesus arriving nothing on tv is that important
