Yeah, I finally dumped Dish back in early 2016 because the price finally got more than I was willing to pay, and went to Charter/Spectrum. Only to find out that Dish was LIGHTYEARS ahead of technology in their dvr, compared to Charter. Only kept the cable tv for 1 year, then dumped them for OTA tv with Tivo Roamio and my outside antenna complex setup. Later I got the satellite bug again after deciding MAYBE I really can get some FTA satellite at my new house despite the maple trees, and setup the 7.5ft Sami dish.

Now we are FTA C-band, 30w ku fixed, OTA antennas, free Epix streaming (part of Charter/Spectrum internet-only subs perk). I also have about 6TB's worth of filled harddrives on a WDTVLIVE, which at my age of 60 is likely to not all get completely watched before I pass, lol.

It's not about the money other than every time I paid the bill I asked myself "why do we still have this ?". Matter of fact, if the rep had said it would have been ZERO cost for a year, I was still cancelling.

If that’s the case then cancel.

I have done that with other services and not looked back

Sounds like when you try to cancel something snd they won’t take no for an answer and keep offering better deals to stay.

Kind of like cancelling AOL

Well, I've tried to quit before, but this time I'm really doing it.
Have you done it yet ? If/when you do, would you mind posting what they tell you regarding returning equipment. I know they send boxes with return labels but I didn't pay close enough attention when he mentioned the 'cost'. I'm thinking now he indicated $15 per box and I can see them sending separate boxes for the Hopper, Joey, LNB, and remotes - $60 total !! :p I'll return them on my own in that case !

Anyone else who has recently cancelled, what did you encounter with return boxes, charges, etc ?

I own my equipment so there's nothing to return in my case, but when my parents disconnected back in late 2018 they did pay the $15 fee. One box was big enough for the Hopper, Joey, remotes and LNB.

Okay, the guy clearly said "per box" so I wanted to check ! In that case, I'll use theirs as I presume it include the foam padding like they use when the equipment is 'new'. If I use that and it gets damaged, it should fall under their responsibility more (as long as I use it right).

Don’t bother returning the LNB. “Too hard to get too.”

The rep specifically asked if the LNB was in a location that I could reach and if I said it was on the roof, I'm confident he was going to tell me not to worry about it. In our case, it's pole-mounted in the ground and easily accessible.

I do wonder how much single-tuner OTA dongles are worth nowadays.... :p

The only channel I like that I don't get with YTTV is AXS. I enjoy the concerts they run. I may try Qello as a substitute.

AXS was ITC on 127W C band, if you get a C band dish down the road. I'm not sure if it's still there because I haven't been able to get 127 W for the last month or so. The wind spun my dish on the pole a bit and I just put it back quick, lost the end of the arc sats. Once it's warmer here, I'll fix it right.

When you get it back exactly, scratch a thin mark from the bottom of the polar mount to the pole. That way if it ever spins again, you can simply line up the scratch marks, and be back up and running quick.

Or you can consider drilling completely through the mount, and pin it to the pole. I used to do that, however, I've since decided that IF there's enough of a big wind to spin the dish, perhaps it's BEST to allow the dish to spin. As it'll naturally spin out of the wind, and not hopefully not cause any damage or bending to anything.

AirTV unit arrived today. Extremely simple to set up; I was watching TV in less than 5 minutes. It recognized my 2 TB (formerly Wally) EHD, reformatted it, and now it's working as well. The guide has data for almost all the channels including subnets. Overall, I'm impressed so far, and even more impressed that its FREE!

AirTV has the aspect ratio on OTA sub channels screwed up here. Comet, MeTV and the others that broadcast in 16:9 format are squished down to 4:3. They all look like MeTV does on Dish channel 247.

I'd bet that's not an AirTV issue. Your local station probably doesn't have their aspect ratio set correctly. I have one of those left here. I contacted station engineers and had them fix some sub channels, but at one station (who must be incompetent) they couldn't fix it.

I'd bet it is an AirTV issue because they all look great on all our TV's and all of our Hoppers.
