I believe I saw a number o 2 or 2.5 million on one of these threads, but it was also pointed out we don’t know how many of those AEP.
Dish is showing that HBO is not coming back, but its also saying that you can have your cake and eat it too. Meaning you can have DISH and HBO too.
It is important to point out that we don't know how many of those subscribers were getting HBO as a freebie or some other kind of promotion, versus how many were paying full price. Also, as far as how many subscribers HBO lost, you would also have to take into account how many Dish HBO subscribers have already switched to another provider, or signed up for HBO streaming directly.
HBO makes twice as much money when people subscribe to HBO Now as when they subscribe using Dish as the middle man. They can gladly lose 2 million subscribers from Dish if they can get 1 million of them back subscribing directly or through DTV, Uverse, or DTV Now. It was probably a smart move for them to remove HBO from Dish for competitive reasons.

I wonder what Amazon's cut is if you get HBO via Prime Channels.
They may or may not get me back, but as it stands, I am using HBOGo for free, so no money to them.
The real question is how many subscribers did HBO gain back from customers getting HBO via streaming or jumping ship and switching providers.
Then figure the additional amount of revenue they made selling HBO retail online vs selling it to Dish to resell.
If HBO is making the money on the back end, it ain’t ever coming back to dish unless Charlie pays their price.
I think this acquisition is going to de-valuate HBO, once GoT is gone and then there's Westworld which is good, but probably not as good as GoT is or was, I don't know the numbers and could be completely wrong on that.

Now the question is will HBO be dropping their stand alone of HBO Now currently priced at $15/month, down to $10/month in the near future?

The real "Hard Core" HBO/Cinemax subscribers have already moved on. They either dropped Dish as my friend's brother did for Direct, or as I did with HBO so I subbed to it via the Roku/Fire Stick. The Firestick has the channels live or on demand. But my friend's brother got a good deal with Direct on their biggest pack and two receivers for $126 a month. But after the first year, I am sure their rates will go up a lot. He was promised a bunch of "discounts" the second year by the installer but that remains to be seen if Direct will still be offering them the second year. I believe they are on a 2 year contract so if Direct really jacks up the price the second year then they will be stuck until the 2 years run out. I will be surprised if they stay after the second year as his bill will be something like $216.
If their deal is anything like the last time I signed up for Directv, don't expect them to get any kind of break in the second year. Also, that Early Cancellation Fee is a real monster, but it is still cheaper than keeping Directv service at that point. That is a lesson learned from painful experience.
I get the Welcome Pack from Dish and Netflix and Amazon Prime directly from each service. I have more than I can watch. Who needs HBO!

I picked up a Roku and subscribed to HBO NOW, but still miss having it live and recorded to DVR. First world problems, right?
Either on this thread or another, I mentioned that I was going to get HBO via the Firestick when GoT got close. Well, Amazon ran a promotion that would give $10 credit on your Amazon account if you subscribed via their own "Prime" or the HBO Now app. I didn't like the HBO Go app when I used it and so elected to go with the Amazon Prime version. And it is a very good app!
As you mentioned, the app gives you the familiar Prime layout with HBO broken into categories across the rows such as "series", "comedy", "movies" etc. with the bottom row featuring five thumbnails of the five HBO channels (East, West etc) so very easy to just stream what is "live" on the channels themselves.
Now I really don't care for today's movies. (let's face it, if Marvel Superheroes aren't your bag, what is there?) so it's only the few original series like Westworld, GoT etc. that makes me want to get HBO. But I was testing out the app last night and I thought I'd click on Ready, Player One since I had read the book. Now too much "Uncanny Valley" for me to enjoy (though gamers should have no problem as it looks like the shoot em ups my nephews play all the time) I was very pleased to see that it was imbued with Amazon's "X-Ray". Since Amazon bought IMDb, this has been feature where while you are watching the show/movie, a slide with the up arrow will give you information on the actors, characters, music, trivia etc. Absolutely great for trivia nuts that like me who wants to know who the "Hey, it's that guy!" guy really is. It was also in a 2:35 to 1 ratio which really pleased me since the last time I watched a movie on HBO it had been "reformatted" to 1.78:1

I saw your post earlier on the HBO deal and I went to my Amazon account and searched everywhere I could think of but could not find a deal? Also with HBO on Amazon is it just the HBO channel or is there more available? I assume it's just HBO and then you can search for the series/movies, etc... Need to do something before to long because the wife will NOT miss GOT last season..............

I read the same post, and I assumed that the HBO deal was a special promotion that came with the purchase of the 4K Firestick, not a deal for every Amazon customer.
