Where it's Warm
Echostar is abandoning their Brazilian service (44.9W).

Echostar 23 will be relocating to 72.6W where it will provide DBS service to the United States and Canada.

I will generate the KMZ coverage map when the technical application is filed.

Satellite drift is scheduled for approximately April 1, 2019

Does this mean that the 72 orbital location will have more capacity? Or will it be operating in a backup capacity?

Considering the payload, I wonder if the move of E23 is not about DBS, but about Dish's wireless plans. Satellites are still and will continue to be a big part of wireless communications signal path for cell/smartphone and some services for the coming 5G. I also seem to remember some time ago Dish mentioning satellites (with proper payload) as part of the infrastructure for it wireless plans.

Hey... any ideas of the estimated size of the off-set ku band dish for Costa Rica / Central America?...

Am I seeing right..?

A 1.8 meter dish for the first BEAM?.

I hope that the previous Brazil beam was re-sized in such a way that parts of Costa Rica are included without increasing the diameter of the dish...

I am trying to download the picture from the FCC website but it will not work ...

thanks
Alberto

Latest filings requests locating at 67.9W beginning June 17 .

FCC filing Excerpt:
"Accordingly, the requested STA will allow EchoStar to operate EchoStar 23 at 67.9° W.L. for a brief interim period until Canadian authorization may be secured for operations at 72.6° W.L. EchoStar has no plans to bring into use any International Telecommunication Union filings at or near the 67.9° W. L. orbital location."
