I have a 2009 avalanche and trying to figure out why it doesn't have a tab for the XM radio. It is a touch screen and I have pulled the glove box down and confirmed there is a XM module behind the glove box. The onstar also is not working. I dont know if it is connected to the xm not working. The only tabs I have are am, FM and aux, there is an empty tab but it lights up when I put a CD in. I pretty sure it is suppose to have it because the truck is loaded with all the options and does have the module for xm.

Is it the factory GM touchscreen sat nav model. Sounds like it’s an aftermarket radio. I just have the stock factory non touchscreen model in my Avalanche. XM is never turned off on mine. I live on 40s Junction
Yes, it's the factory gm touch screen radio. It's also a bose system. It has a DVD player also with the overhead player.

I wonder if it was original to that vehicle or a replacement. If it’s not original you may have to go to the dealer to get it working correctly along with the onstar. You can always pop the front trim panel off with a plastic pick or old credit card, loosen the screws and pull the deck out and make sure everything is plugged in tight. I seem to remember something about they may be locked to the vin or something.
I’m probably not much help. It’s been a long time since I’ve done anything. I have the Bose system in my 08. I pulled my head unit out 5-6 yrs ago and added an aftermarket Bluetooth kit to mine. The Bluetooth wiring harness plugged into the head unit and the factory harness plugged into the Bluetooth module, so I didn’t have to mess with the onstar and XM connections.
This Bluetooth unit was specific at that time in that it allowed my onstar and SiriusXM to continue to work. I have to use the onstar buttons on the mirror as the buttons on the steering wheel are now for the Bluetooth.

That's what I was hoping to do was get the isimple bluetooth device and plug it into the back. But from what I have read you have to use the xm opinion in the radio to program the bluetooth so I would be wasting time and money buying it if that part doesn't work
If you don't have your original factory sticker, there are websites were you enter in the VIN and it will bring it up. Double check you have the same radio from the factory like OSU said.
I was in the opposite situation with my '05 Navigator, which I think would be more common. The factory head unit was Sirius ready and had the SAT button, but it did not have the module or antenna. It was an add on option from Ford that that original owner didn't opt for. By the time the early 2010s rolled around, it became standard and my '13 Navigator has it built in. This was before the merger, I used a Roady XT PNP receiver for XM and a Starmate for Sirius in the '05 as it was stupidly expensive to have it added after the fact.
