No Picture, But Strong Signal

Hi All,

While getting ready to watch the NBC Nightly News on 105W this evening, I found the picture to be pixelated and unwatchable. My signal is strong at 10.2db. I also can't seem to to get the Lesea feeds on 99W even though I have a strong signal at 11.1db. Both were coming fine last night. I tried rescanning both, but to no avail. Wind blowing the dish off signal isn't a factor.
Any thoughts ??

Mike,

It is only these 2 satellites that are giving me this issue. Strong signal, but no viewable picture and no audio.
Will check out my system Saturday, but can't figure what happened between Thursday night which was viewable and Friday which wasn't.
On the 99W Lesea channels. there is no pixilation just a dark screen with no sound and 11.1 db reading.

Maybe not. This sort of situation has been posted before, by multiple people. So, it happens at random. Sometimes you have to go as far as deleting the satellite completely, re-insert it, and rescan. However, that's not as simple to do with an Enigma 2 receiver as it is with an appliance receiver.

My suggestion is for him to delete the channels from the MAIN satellite list, reboot the receiver, and rescan again.

I think I'll check to make sure there is no problem at the dish, then try what you suggested.
Very odd to lose those 2 strong satellites for no apparent reason.

Check inside your feedhorn for wasps or something. Also, check EACH connection to make sure they are tight, lnbf connector, any switch or connector point all the way to the receiver. Maybe even swap coax so you temporarily run directly to the receiver, without any switches, etc in-between. Yet everything else worked perfectly. That was a trip to find.

I have had a bad connector, that acted as a "notch filter" and ONLY notched out a certain frequency range. I could NOT receive anything in the range, until I replaced the connector.

% signal quality is what you want to use as a determining factor when having problems. Although I've epxerienced pixielation occasionally with high % quality signals and I figure it is the feed, not my dish.

I think the problem lies with my dish and not the feed itself as no one else has reported issues with these satellites.
Hopefully today I can take a look and see what the problem is. Hopefully its an easy fix.

Hi All,

Well I took a break yesterday afternoon from doing yard work to make a preliminary check of my satellite dish connections.
All seemed good, there was no water intrusion and no corrosion noted in the connections. Today if time permits, I will check up by the feedhorn. I don't have any switches to be concerned about as its a straight shot from my LNBF to my receiver.
This issue really has me baffled.

If you don't find anything that seems like it could be causing it, do you have another receiver you can temporarily put in place to see if it can scan in those sats properly? That would be a quick check.

If not, the next things I'd try is replacing the LNBF, (if you have a spare) OR, take the receiver out to the dish and run a new temp coax in place of the coax that's there now and see what happens.

Hi All,

Well I determined that my coaxial (ribbon) cable is at fault. I checked my cable out at the dish, from my LNBF to my signal meter, Had a good strong reading. Next I went inside to where I have spliced the cable using a cable connector. From the splice back out to the dish, again using my signal meter, all is well. However, from the splice to the receiver there is no signal. I've checked the non working part of the cable for cuts and other assorted damage...nothing.
So now I'm debating as to whether I should replace all the cable from the dish to the receiver, or just from the working splice to the receiver. This ribbon cable is 20 years old and may be past its prime. I would need approx. 75- 80 feet for my for my C band set up and would also include the same for the future installation of Ku band. Since ribbon cable is no longer available I would have 2 separate runs of rg6 cable, 8 feet of which would be buried underground.
Gotta think this over some more, but leaning toward a total replacement.

Maybe it's just the barrel connector connecting them together that's bad, OR the coax end going to the receiver.

I have had barrel connectors go bad, and notch out frequencies. It's odd I admit, but it's happened.
