Actually a red button reboot does not download the guide. You have to do a hard reset (unplug the box) to get the guide to download. Yes, that's the first thing I did before calling tech support.

I never understood why Dish never included a guide download option somewhere in their menus. It seems it wouldn't be that difficult and would eliminate the necessity of unplugging the receiver.

I wish I knew where I could test some tubes- err, “valves.” If I could get replacements it might bring my Kuba back to life.

And if you can't make it easy to download the guide why the hell is the power cable hard wired? LOTS of Hoppers if not most are buried deep in equipment cabinets which makes it VERY difficult to get to the power plug. Since a hard reboot is a problem solver I've put a switchable extension cord on the Hopper after having to dismantle my cabinet a few times . . . It would be nice if the people who designed these things actually lived with them.

On the ViP or older receivers, if you scrolled all the way to the right in the Guide, it would give you the option to do a guide download if the Guide was outdated.

I am not sure about other models of Hoppers, but on both the Hopper Duo and Wally, the power cord is detachable from the back of the receiver. In other words, if you have access to the back of the receiver to be able to change cables, then there is an easy way to unplug it without having to trace the power cord and find the proper plug in the outlet. I have rebooted my Hopper Duo and Wally that way more than once with no ill effects, so it does not seem to matter which end of the cord you unplug. :)

If you have the Komet, then it would be well worth your time to get it going again. I don't know what you would do for a TV station, though...

On second thought, yes I do. I'll contribute my A/V to NTSC transmitter to the cause. People's minds would be BLOWN to see that working again. Especially with your HwS playing on it. ;)

The Hopper 1 and Hopper 3 that I am in possession of have hard wired power cords. No way to unplug it at the receivers.

I thought I remembered that about the Hopper 1, but I was not sure. In any event, my point is that this is one thing that Dish got right when they were designing the Wally and the Hopper Duo. :)

Hooper with Sling Box, which I believe is the Hopper 2 and Hopper 3 are hardwired. Kind of ridiculous being that most everything else has a detachable power cord.

I'm not sure if it's related to some of the guide problems mentioned but I've been experiencing a problem lately with one of my OTA stations. Twice in the last few weeks timers I had set on our local CBS affiliate WISC 3.1 failed to record anything. When I looked at the channel in the guide it was listed and showed the red recording in progress light but nothing showed up in the DVR. Tuning to the channel only got a OTA signal lost error message even though I have an outside antenna and all channels show 100% signal. Re-scanning the OTA locals seemed to fix the problem for about a week but then it happened again.

When the timer fails to record, does the event show up in the Schedule tab when you go back to look at that day's activity? If so, does it say "Not Applicable" for that event on the right side of the screen, where it gives the details for "Recording Started" and "Recording Stopped"? Were you also recording anything on a different OTA channel and/or satellite-delivered channel(s) at the same time as the timer that failed? What is the code number in the upper-right corner of the signal lost error message you are seeing? What you described sounds very similar to an issue that I have experienced, and I have also read about others who have experienced the same problem.

Here it is. I posted a link earlier in this thread, but I will post one again here, just to make it convenient:

I don't remember looking at the schedule tab but will do that if it occurs again. Everything I did look at appeared normal. The only indication of a problem was the OTA signal lost message(can't remember the number) when I tried tuning to the channel. I've seen that error message popup many times before. Usually it goes away after a couple of seconds or sometimes tuning away from the channel and then going back to it is what's needed. I was not recording anything else at the time.

Another issue that seemed to come out of this was missing one other OTA channel and it's subs after the first re-scan. I didn't realize it wasn't there until a few days after. After doing two more re-scans it finally showed up again but now that channel is not showing up in the Dish Anywhere guide even though the last re-scan was done almost a week ago.

For those of you who's OTA guide is still working what software version is running on your Hopper? (hit menu twice and it will bring you to the info screen) U536 which was installed on my machine on 6/19 at 12:21am is where your OTA guide will go to hell. Tomorrow is the end of the 48hr time period they said to wait to call back. I'd love to be able to give the last software version that worked. Also those who's functionality has gone to hell be sure to call tech support so they know it's a wide spread problem.
