As you may know we pay to have our own custom SatelliteGuys app. This app is powered by Tapatalk.

We have been paying for this custom app and I have been noticing that the Tapatalk app has been getting updates but our SatelliteGuys app has not been getting updated.

So today I contacted them and got the following reply back...

Hi Thank you for contacting Tapatalk! Due to an update in App store and Google Play Store App approval guideline, we no longer provide branded App support. Please try publishing your forum in the Tapatalk App as an alternative.

Great for them to let us know, after all we have been paying (and are still paying) for our branded app. Now it appears we are paying to have our forum ad free if you use their Tapatalk app (meaning they don't insert their own ads.)

Since our app is not being updated I would expect it to stop working or get pulled from Apple for not using the newest API's.

I advise everyone to start using the Tapatalk app for uninterrupted mobile device coverage.

With that said Tapatalk is also no longer issuing updates for our Forum Software Xenforo's 1.x series. They are now only supporting Xenforo 2.0. As many of you know I have been holding off upgrading to 2.0 due to the lack of many of our plugins which many have come to enjoy not being made for Xenforo 2.0.

But this is another step in pushing us towards 2.0. of course we can not upgrade to 2.0 here until we upgrade the operating system and backend on our servers. To do this the entire server needs to be backed up... then the drives formatted and the latest OS will be installed, when that happens we will be running the PHP and other backend software needed to support Xenforo 2.0.

So just giving you guys a heads up. I know people don't like change, nor do I. But we are getting pushed to the point where we will have to.

Thanks for being here and for your support.

I dislike the native Tapatalk. The browsers on iOS I have noticed sometimes miss some recent posts.

But do what you gotta do. I will adjust.

I use the IOS SatelliteGuys App Version 7.1.18 to view SatelliteGuys on my Iphone and IPad. Is this the App that is going away? How does this Tapatalk work? I noticed there are several Tapatalk Apps (Tapatalk and Tapatalk Pro which costs $9.99). What is the difference?

I gave up on the SatelliteGuys.US App about a year back. Now, I just use the Mobile browser and it looks fine. Plus, it fixes some of the more annoying App "features" like uploading a picture that only you can see.

Thanks for keeping us updated, Scott (ironic, Scott can up the App Status but not the App itself…)

When I try to use my IPhone browser I get the following message “Safari can not open the page because it could not load any data” when trying to open SatelliteGuys.US

I finally got it to work. You need to enter www.SatelliteGuys.US.

I hope the App does not go away. The App is a lot easier to use than Safari. Plus the App has a lot more options than the web based method.

Foxbat- Are you referring to Safari?

To be honest, the app has serious drawbacks. It freezes up sometimes on my iPhone XS Max. If I’m making anything other than a short post, I can’t scroll down to see what I’m typing. Sometimes I can post a picture, usually not.

I use it because it’s easy, but I really need to move on.

Scott- can you tell us some stats on what is most commonly used from iOS devices? Say, the top five and percentages of each used?

I just use Google Chrome or Safari on my iphone. I have satelliteguys bookmarked for quick access and automatic login. Everything works like on a PC. I never could understand the need for a special app to view forums. In my experience, the Tapatalk custom app has always been crippled and prevents some content from being seen. Apps are nice when they work better but not when they fail in so many usual features.

I have found that just using Chrome browser in my cell phone with email notification has been the best way for me when I am away from my laptop for SatGuyUs forum.

Using Chrome or Firefox on Android without problems. The app always felt cumbersome to me - using a browser is easy.
