Monthly cost difference from 722K to either HWS+Joey or H3+Joey

Been holding on to my 722K for many years and has served us well. Have held off upgrading to Hoppers due to (perceived?) increase in monthly cost.

Have been exploring an upgrade (Hopper+Joey) lately. Have been a sub since '97. Wanting to confirm what my monthly increase would be. For some reason I had always assumed it would be an additional $22/mon ($15 Hopper + $7 joey).

But I didn't realize that the $15 Hopper charge was the same thing as the DVR charge. I currently am paying a discounted DVR fee of $7.

Questions:
  • Is my $7 discount DVR fee just because of my dated 722K? Are other people receiving this 'loyal customer' DVR discount with HWS/H3 setups? If I could keep this $7 DVR charge then maybe my only monthly increase would be the $7 Joey fee.
  • Is there a monthly cost differences between HWS+Joey vs H3+Joey?
 
AFAIK, as soon as you switch to a hopper, your $7 loyal customer DVR fee will vanish. You'll pay up to $15 for DVR (you might get a temporary discount on the DVR fee or Joey fee). So i'd say your current total of $7 could change to anywhere between $15 and $22, an $8 to $15 increase.

That's one of the many reasons I'm still holding on to my 722.

I liked that post for the factual content, not for the crack about 'one of the many reasons I'm still holding on to my 722'. IMHO a Hopper 3 is worth that and more. :biggrin

I have my many reasons, and they are valid to me, even if I could keep the costs the same. :)

To each his own.

I had to move on from my 722 because my Sony TV (65x830c) had HDMI/HDCP issues with 3 different 722s. Whenever I turned on the TV the 722 would do a full reboot, up to 10 minutes to acquire signal and any ongoing recordings would be interrupted.

After sometime trying to troubleshoot Dish finally upgraded me to my Hopper 3, rarely miss the 722 since upgrading.

I like my 722k simply for the fact that I can have 2 TVs hooked to it for the $7 a month DVR fee. Sure, 1 is in SD but we don't use that 2nd TV that much. The 722k is great for how we use TV in our house.

I hope it continues to live a long, healthy life in my house.

There is still a neutered seek option. Wish someone from Dish heard the cries for seek return. I know it caused a LOT of confusion with a lot of customers, though.

Yeah, it make no sense. While the Hopper has many new and different features, they neutered or outright removed other basic and useful DVR functions.

Seek and Record is useless compared to Dish Pass.
4x FF/RW removed, the most useful of the speeds for pinpoint searching.
Customizable nightly update schedule removed.
List view (titles, not tiles) and sort options for quicker location of titles.

I'm sure I'm forgetting others.

But hey, there's a plethora of tuners and the interface is pretty.

Oh, and don't forget about the red recording light. :D

I watched the TV2 output for years via an HDTV just using the composite output. The picture, such as it was, was pretty darn good and DVD quality. My TV upscaled that beautifully. The only problem was the dang aspect ratio. There is no way to get a normal widescreen out of TV2 without putting the 722 into solo mode, thereby defeating the purpose of having a TV2 output. :crying

Pretty? That's not a word I would use for CGA graphics. :mad:
