I hate the idea of paying for something that Dish will eventually be giving me for free (supposedly), but on the other hand, it's beyond ridiculous that Dish won't just send these out to single-Hopper subscribers already. It's not like they don't KNOW what equipment everyone is using!
They're not sending them out to offices, either. We've been out of them for 2 weeks. I don't think they were intended for mass distribution yet, possibly

My HWS started having hard drive issues. Called tech support and they sent me a replacement. The replacement receiver had the Snap module taped to it. I didn't know what it was. Called tech support and they said it will improve the performance of the EPG among other things, which I can't remember what else it was. I plugged it in, hooked everything up. I really can't see a difference, but I unplugged it while the receiver was on and got and error message on my screen saying an important component had been disconnected which will cause some kind of issue.
I only have the one receiver, no Joey's.

The Snap needs Software version U717. The one the sent you probably has U705 so you won't see any improvement until your software updates

Well Dish came through!! Downloaded U717 on to my HWS last night. Just checked our SJ (superjoey) and it is now as fast as the HWS was after installing the SNAP a while back..
Good job Dish and thanks again to Scott for sending me one :)..

As one of those that bought a Hopper Snap from the Ebay seller, I can confirm that not only is the HWS lightning fast, but also the Super Joey. I'd forgotten what it feels like since the CUI to have a Hopper running at full speed. Since I don't need 16 tuners (5 is enough for me) or 4K, I no longer need to consider a H3/Joey 3 upgrade to save me from the annoying sluggishness. :whoo

Update: I noticed the Snap module received another firmware update (S153) a couple of days ago. Since the Snap module doesn't provide additional features/functionality (all it does is make earlier Hoppers about as fast as the H3) it's unknown what the update is for. Possibly support for multiple Hoppers?

both of my HWS updated themselves last week

would love to have a couple of the snaps, but will wait till I can get them free from Dish

Believe me when I say it is money well spent.

Out of curiosity- anyone here have two snaps employed on a multiple HWS setup?
