The 4228 has a one-piece reflector that is similar in width to the size necessary for VHF-high reception, that's its secret.

Other 8 bay UHF bow toe antennas usually have a separate reflector for each of the two bays of bow ties and aren't very good on VHF-high.

WALA is on RF channel 9. If you try to get it with a UHF antenna - FAIL!

WALA is also 1 or 2 edge unless you get above 50 ft AGL, maybe more, very height sensitive.

Thanks -- I made sure the antenna I bought was the correct one for picking up channels like WALA. I'm not the only person in this area who complains about reception from that station.

No progress reported by DISH.

We are continuing to actively work hard with Meredith Corporation to bring your channels back as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience, as we know it is very frustrating to go without your favorite TV.

Unfortunately, Meredith continues to demand DISH pays higher fees to carry their channels than any other broadcaster in the nation. We offered to match the rates paid by other pay-tv providers but Meredith Corporation refused this offer. The fact is, only Meredith Corporation can choose to remove their channels from DISH customers. We had hoped to avoid service interruption for our customers by offering to extend the contract so you would not be impacted but Meredith Corporation refused.

Yup, pretty lame.

Another week without an agreement. Meredith in my market is ABC, CBS, and FOX. Why they are able to control 3 major networks in one market is another good question for the FCC. I should cancel the locals until this gets resolved. $12 a month is pretty steep for just NBC & PBS.

What market are you in?

It has gone on longer than I thought it would. Not a whiff of any movement. Only one channel in Ct but it is the most watched channel for news, weather, morning news etc, and it is CBS. Thankfully I got my wife to watch the soap operas online with CBS all access. Those appear to be free to watch.

I have the Xfinity Stream app on both the bedroom and livingroom Rokus so I can still watch the channels. Their DVR is pathetic though, something like 4 recordings max stored at a time. On the plus side I get Boston locals as well. And free HBO this weekend.

The rest of the family doesn't like not seeing the programs in the guide. Would be nice if DISH would keep up the guide info instead of just showing "Meredith Takedown". At least we'd know when something worth watching was on so we could switch to the Xfinity Stream app.

edit: I realize that would anger people expecting the show to be on when "selecting" it in the guide.

I totally agree with you. I thought a single owner wasn't allowed more than two of the "Big 4". Here's what the FCC website says...

An entity is permitted to own up to two TV stations in the same Designated Market Area if either:
  • The service areas – known as the digital noise limited service contour – of the stations do not overlap
  • At least one of the stations is not ranked among the top four stations in the DMA (based on audience share), and at least eight independently owned TV stations would remain in the market after the proposed combination

That is terrible, 3 main networks. Here it is Fox & MyTV, but I am lucky to get them OTA.

Boston's duopolys are only CBS owning our CBS (obviously) and My Network TV affiliates, and Sunbeam owning an Independent and our CW affielate. The independent used to be an NBC affielate, but NBC bought few low power stations in the region and started their own affielate.

As for Springfield, it's such a small market. I'm not sure how the rules apply in markets below the top 100. To make it worse, you'd probably get a couple channels from Hartford out there with an antenna. But, if I'm correct, the only channel of importance that most likely comes through is their CBS affielate.

That’s odd. I thought the plan was to keep the guide info up and simple substitute the programming in hopes nobody noticed.
