I am guessing that is the scrambled 4:2:2 coming out of the set top box... and the one below it is the decoded picture.

Yep, the top monitor is what FTA (unencrypted) 4:2:2 looks like with direct HDMI connection from the STB to a monitor.

The bottom monitor is displaying the same STB via live stream to a PC running the free VLC media player.

Weird; on every 4:2:2 feed I've seen on my Edision it's just a black screen over HDMI-

Not tried on the Mio yet, but everything 4:2:2 I have seen before, looks like the top TV.

Depends which service was previously tuned before tuning to a 4:2:2 service. Sometime black, othertimes the Mio 4K has enough valid data that it attempts to apply correction and display.

I knew there was something I wasn't understanding. I have a good network with all new equipment. Had to replace it after lightning took it out. I just installed a 4TB network drive the other day. Right now, I don't have my STB ran through it, but that's no big deal. I have everything else in the house hooked to it. I'll play with it and see how it goes. Thanks for the info.
