C band on 90 cm dish experiment

Hey guys. Picked up a 90cm Channel Master dish and a mounting stand. Also got a BSC C band lnb.

The dish measures 36.5 wide by 39 inches tall so it is a hair over 90cm. More like 91 cm wide and maybe equivilent to a round 95cm dish with the size. Anyhow I am going to test and see what C band I can recieve on it. I have a good digital meter now and even though I have a 12 ft bud in the waiting I like to experiment on things like this. Having a Satlink 6916 meter with blind scans I can show what I am pulling in and things such as db while at the dish.


I will post pics and updates of what I scan in and info such as signals and such. Here is a pic of the dish. As you can see I will be using a C clamp to mount it down until I figure out something better. Again this is an experiment and likely not a fixed dish on c band, but then again you never know! I wouldnt mind added a fixed c band sat to my locked in ku motorized setup which is scanning 30w to 129w as we speak.

Well having issues clamping it down with a c clamp. I think tomorrow i am gonna get some duct tape. Lol.

Just using the hand holding the lnb and adjusting it i hit 97 on a blind blind scan. Lol. I hit several tps but only scanned in the Axteca feed with the mux of channels and hit them at 8.5 db. i guess not too bad for a small dish.

You can't use a c-band lnbf, with a conical scalar on that model dish, and EVER get it in the proper place for receiving c-band signals like you want. The c-band lnbf will sit 3-4 degrees too HIGH, (changing the dish aim, and not getting enough signal) and be pushed in too close to the dish because of the size of the conical scalar. It's simply NOT possible to do it properly without modifying the two side arms, and how they connect to the center arm. You have to remove the plastic ku lnb holder and go with screws.

Easiest solution involves moving the side arms down the needed distance on the center arm and drilling a hole to bolt through, and leaving the center arm mount point free enough so it'll all work, and allow proper adjustment.

Don't even bother trying it any other way, I guarantee you it won't even work right until you move those side arms...

Well with some tape and adjusting I have so far been able to pull in the following.


91 West

Classic Arts
The Word Network 2 channel mux
PR mux some BYU channels

A few others. Forgot what they were. Hit the Word Net up to 40 or so pct quality



97 West

The Azteca mux with several channels

Some other mux



Not bad for just tinkering on a small dish.

I have played around feedarms and LNB-holder of CM dishes a lot and finally came to the conclusion that it is better to change feedarms and LNB-holder to new ones. Then it is possible to adjust LNB in all possible ways and directions. Depending on the clamp used dish can be equipped with Ku or C band LNB.
