price hike and no relief for a customer fo almost 10 years

Hello:
I usually post on here looking for technical help not this time. this time it's a huge price hike. I have a system with 4 DRV receivers and one slave. I have 1 gene, 1 slave and 3 Hr24's of different hard drive sizes. my last discount ran out this month and my bill went though the roof up $56.00 I have the Ultimate programming package and a regional sports package. that's it no premium stations. I called to ask for another discount even to extend it out for 2 years. this last discount was for just 12 months. prior to that one I locked in for 2 year discount. No real help ay all I called and talked to "BILL" in India got no where and he sent me to okbar or who ever and they would only offer me a $5.00 a month discount. Really? I have been with them for almost 10 years and you offer me a $5.00 discount? you offer new customers a low introductory rate free premium channels and NFL package and someone who has been paying you for years gets a slap in the face.
Any luck with cancelling it all together and can you open up another account at the same address say under you spouse's name though maybe a Mom and Pop local dealer and get a better deal? If so there is something really wrong with their marketing department. I love the programming and the system I have right no I never have a conflict with recordings etc. I have 2 kids and they use to fight all the time of stuff on the same receiver when I got the genie that solved my issue there. "BILL" told me I can lower my bill by getting a lesser programming package? Really that's how you save me some $ by telling me to lower the programming down a notch! Looking for some input and thank you. on top of that they call me every few month's wanting to offer me up a free trial for HBO and showtime.... Umm No how about you lower my bill the cost of that programming ??
 
Cancel and go some where else with a new customer intro is about the only answer, if dropping equipment and programming isn't an option. TV programming and provider fees have become outrageously expensive and one has to decide how much value to place on them. Personally there isn't enough programming of value anymore to justify more than the minimal costs.
 
I agree as it stands now I really do not have any premium channels and “bill” said lower your package level really seriously that is the best yo7 can do “Bill”.. I am going to look into what a new customer deal could be with what I have now. Huge companies do not value loyalty I guess.
 
Whatever you try you won't get a new customer deal from directv. They have closed all the loopholes.
 
I'm amused by "long term" customers that are upset over what they have already agreed to pay. If they don't give you the discount you think you deserve, go somewhere else, or lower your package. Griping here solves nothing.

These days your best bet is to change providers.

We did that between dish and directv for several years before we decided it just wasn’t worth it to us and went streaming.

You can also call back and ask a different representative, but I would t expect to get anywhere close to where you were.

Well, to be fair, griping here does often give members a suggestion they may not have considered.
Even if it’s just change providers.
 
Call back, tell them you are thinking about canceling and ask to be transferred to their retention department. Then discuss with the retention department your dilemma. They ate more likely to help you than the first level call center staff.

Point is, when your a Long Time sub, you should get something (maybe like 10% off or even 20% depending on how long you've been there)

Then they would have to determine what Long Term is.
 
No. But first time electric customers and first time tax payers don't get a one year introductory price break either.
You also can't choose another electric company if you don't like the one you have. People are not forced to sign up with DTV. Everyone needs power.

I do have choices 2 I can go to cable... Bleh! I do already have them for my internet and I also have a Landline cable phone line. (yes old school) but I use it a lot. Or dish network which I had prior to DirectTV and I didn't like the service back them and they dropped the MSG station from my sport package and local NHL hockey is on there (sabres) Yah I know.... they since fixed that and it's back that is why I made the switch in the first place. so there are choices in yeas past they have offered up a discount with out much of a fight I would be fine if they offered me up a %10 discount 20% would be fantastic but $5.00 a month really! I would sign up long term 2 years if they gave me a bigger discount. in years past I spoke to someone here in the US too. maybe Oklahoma... Now the phone call goes to a call center far far away where they just have a play book and that's all you get. I feel the customer service was better here when playing let make a deal. I work in a service related field and a good customer I have absolutely no problem helping them out because I know they will come back! !
Pisses me off that they have low introductory rate and give a way the NFL sunday ticket for free with premium channels as well. the ticket is close to $300.00 value. I'll take that value over 12 month contract as a price break. LOL!

There are a lot more choices out there then 2 for TV service, but if you want to save the most money, set up a cancel date, usually then they will be calling you a bunch of times offering you anything to stay.

In July I called to gripe about my rate hike after my 2 year price lock expired, and they gave me a $60/month discount for 12 months. Then two weeks ago out of nowhere I got an email saying I have Sunday Ticket this season for no charge. I'm not that long term of a customer, just 2.5 years now.
