Questions about moving to Genie system from HR24/25 system

Currently have 4 HR24's and 2 H25's.

Keep one of the HR24's and one H25 at vacation home so were not always transporting them back and forth since we spend half the year in each place.

Thinking of moving to new Genie System and had questions.

Could I request Directv to put in 2 Genie master boxes with record capability and 4 mini Genies at our main home, and then later move 1 of these Master Genies and a mini Genie to vacation home so I'm not having to carry them back and forth to vacation home when we go there for 3 months at a time?

Or if I go Genie, should I just plan on lugging a Master Genie and mini Genie back and forth with us each trip?

Note - Vacation home is within area of my main home signal (within 150 miles) so my 2 dishes are set up and currently work well with my local channels at each home.

Lastly...would Directv let me use any of my old HR24/H25 as additional receivers (with additional receiver fee) if I go to a Genie system?

Many thanks.

one genie per account, period

if you get the genie 2, you will have to lug it back and forth, as you cannot have an h25 or h24 on that account

you have 7 tuners at home, a genie 2 has 7 tuners so its a wash as far as tuners

what do you want to accomplish with this?

Was hoping to mirror my current set up which is...
I have a two H24's and two H25's at main home, and then one HR24 and one H25 at our cottage which saves me from lugging units back and forth between our places and using a SWM3 dish at both places....I believe.

As to the Genie system, which is only thing being offered to me, I do not know if you're saying there is a Genie 1 and Genie 2 (?), and if so what is the difference between them?

Am I correct in assuming that your saying I should just get a Genie 2 and 3 or 4 mini's for our main home, and when I leave to go to our cottage, I just take the Genie 2 and one mini which would be like having my current H24 and H25 at our cottage?

Will my current SWM3 dish be compatible with the Genie?

Hope this makes sense, and thank you again for all the input.

Only 1 Genie per account ...

However, you CAN have a Genie HR54 or 44 at the home and still use the HR24s at the other location.

As long as you don't get into the Genie 2 HS17.

You could do that, but what are you gaining (that you need) ... what are you trying to accomplish ?

I apologize, but I am getting so confused......

Thought I had addressed what I am trying to do....so excuse my efforts to explain again.

In order to get my horrendous DirecTV costs down, I have to move to a Costco program where they only offer to come out and in stall a Genie system....they have not told me which model, and am not sure I can request a certain model Genie.....

And I guess I am not making sense in what I am trying to accomplish....

So here goes again.... I will have to move to a Genie system here at my main home...and would like to not lug units back and forth to my cottage.

Am I now hearing that I could demand they install a Genie HR54 or HR 44 for my main house and then add on my existing HR 24 and H25 which I could then take to my cottage?

The Costco program only applies if you are a new Directv customer. And unless you are a new customer you will not qualify for new customer discounts, so I guess what I'm saying is there is no way to reduce your costs with the direction you are going.

Understood regarding Costco program, but if I were to stop Directv for 61 days I would be allowed to go with them.
And if that were the case, and I still had my older Hr 24 and H25 gear, which Genie system should I try and go for that would allow me to add my older HR24 and H25 with a new Genie system?

There are three Genies currently in use. The HR44 and HR54 are similar, except the HR54 is 4k compatible. The HS17 is also 4k compatible, but you can only use clients with it, no other boxes allowed, so no other dvrs or boxes. The HR44 or HR54 do allow for using a regular hd dvr with them.

No, 61 days would not qualify you as a new customer. Whatever the guy at Costco tells you. Remember he is not a DirecTV employee.
And if you cancel your existing account, your existing receivers would either have to go back to Directv or would be disabled and DirecTV will NOT reactivate them on a new Directv account, so they will be doorstops.

Thank you....
So if I understand correctly..I could use my HR24/H25 with the Genie HR54 and have 4K capability, or use my HR24/H25 with the HR44 and not have 4K capability on the Genie side, but if I want to make use of my HR24/H25, I should avoid the Genie HS17?

Texasbrit, thank you,.
So if the Costco employee gave me wrong info...I guess I should call their national customer support to ask/report them.
My current DirecTV contract ended a couple months ago.
But there has to be a time limit where I cancel DirecTV and can go back to Costco for their program?
And 61 days sounds reasonable.....Otheriwse, what time period are you suggesting that I have wait before re-establishing DirecTV with the Costco program?
But overall, it appears I'm back to square one, where if I want to go with Costco program, I simply accept what they install in Genie gear (HR54/44/HS17 with clients) and then lug the main Genie and client back and forth between my main home and cottage?

Yes! Keep in mind that the HR54 only provides one 4k stream at a time, the HS17 does two.

Keep in mind also within that 61 days directv is going to want your old boxes back. Unless you own them which is rare. You can’t keep them

Well that's the first good news I've received today...I don't even own a 4K TV...
I simply am trying to get my costs reduced...DirecTV offered me a 10% discount (off a $200 month bill) after being with them for over a decade, ands is more than TWICE the amount of my local cable providers ($85 per month) offering and the Costco program is the only way to get my costs down to $110 per month.
But as opposed to my local cable provider, it would be nice to stay with DirecTV even though I will have to now lug the new Genie gear back and forth.
I simply cant believe that DirecTV is being so pig headed to loose a decade plus customer over the $50 -$60 per month reduction I was requesting.

Welcome to being an adult. Call your mortgage company and see if they will reduce your costs since you have been a loyal customer for so long

Most of the reps in Costco do not even work for Costco. They work for a third party like Smart Circle. It does not matter whether you have a contract with Directv. If Directv gets a new customer application from a third party, they will check their records. If you'v been a customer in the past year (I think it's still a year) they will reject the application. If it's from a different person at the same address (wife maybe) they will reject the application unless you can convince them the new application is not from the same family.

Have you called Directv to try to get a discount?

Sorry i see you have. But what makes you think Directv should offer you a discount anyway? Many people have been with Directv much longer than you and don't get one. And ATT has made it pretty clear that other then new customers they are moving away from discounting.

Yes, I did, because our bill jumped from $140 to $195 in the last 2 months because we lost a $50 discount we received 2 years ago when we complained for the first time in over 9 years. Funny, that right after we got the $50 discount, they jumped our bill a month later, and then applied the $50, so they still got us, but that's another story.
So I was somewhat surprised today in talking with "Retention", and explaining we had other options, that they only offered a $20 discount.
Also somewhat unsual, as I reported in another previous thread, our niece went to Costco, while still with DirecTV a couple months ago, and she got on their program without having to wait 61 days....must have slipped thru the cracked saved nearly 40%.
It's OK...because like a previous poster to this thread....I'm now learning to become an "adult"....
I usually don't post much, because it's amazing what feedback you get in well meaning forums today....but then there's Karma......
