DISH, DirecTV to merge?

Nostradamus with another end of the world prediction post

So you're going on the record saying that, in 2020, you believe AT&T is NOT going to more actively market AT&T TV than DirecTV, with lower overall prices for the former? All of which, of course, would have the effect of encouraging yet more defections from DirecTV as the company builds up AT&T TV?

Just want to know exactly what it is you think is going to happen. I've clearly laid down what I think will be the case.

I'm going on the record that you post the same spiel in Tolstoy like paragraphs, over and over and over, both here and at TCF. :deadhorse2

If you want a prediction, I can predict with a pretty high certainty someones posts, when seen, will be ignored as ambient noise.
I can also predict with very high reliability that when said someones name comes up in threads the post will contain the same prediction(s) over and over, kind of like a certain person and their quest for all channels to be in HD(now 4K) and all apps to be available on the Hopper. :shh

Now on to your next chapter of War and Peace, where ATT bleeds Directv dry, selling the remnants to Dish, then charging Dish double to carry all Warner Media programming.

Must we all not forget, Charlie already tried to buy Directv back about 15 years ago.

While Charlie had a chance to look over the books, Dish absolutely steam plowed through Directv.

Directv did absolutely no advertising that year, and Directv customers where jumping ship left and right trying to get ahead of things and switching to Dish early.

At the end Charlie never got approval, and wether he was serious about buying Directv last time who knows. At the end of it, he did come out pretty good and didn’t spend a penny.

Point here is Charlie is always going to be a buyer till the bitter end.

Before all you kangaroo fans start speculating how good things will be, without Directv to keep Dish in line, things are going to get a lot worse.

Let’s say for a second Charlie did buy Directv. All the flip flopping between providers every 2 years when the promotion expires, goes away.

Since customers will no longer have a choice between satellite companies, all those new installs that are keeping the Dish installers busy, all of a sudden go away.

Installers will be laid off, and instead of getting paid for new installs, they will be going service calls, or worse yet upgrades.

The retailer base goes away also. Lots of dealers I know flip their customer base every 2-3 years just to keep busy and put food on the table. If a Directv customer can no longer be a new Dish customer, you can’t make any money.

Look at AT&T, one of the first things they did was grandfather all the U-verse customers and tell us since it was “AT&T” a U-verse customer is not considered a new Directv customer and those customers where off limits.

Working for all these providers, most are pretty lax about what they consider a new customer. If we qualified a new customer and the computer didn’t catch it, we got paid as a new customer.

Dish is the only company I know of that matches phone numbers, email addresses, credit cards, names or anyone living in the household who may have watched Dish at some time in their life an existing customer.

Seriously, I have had kids move out of their parents house, we do the install, and get a chargeback because the kid was considered a Dish customer from their parents house.

They might not dare penalize and piss off the customer and take their promotion away if they slipped though the cracks and get a new account. But they sure as hell will take money away from the retailer or sales person who sold it.

But no Directv = no competition for Dish. Directv is needed to keep good old greedy Charlie in line.

Mod edit: took out political talk

OK, thanks for confirming that you don't have any interesting thoughts to share but simply want to sh!ttalk about my posts. Do us both a favor and just block me so that you don't see my posts, OK? I'd block your posts except there's really not much point in ever bothering to read them in the first place so I just breeze on by them.

BTW, I see that over 43% of my posts here have gotten likes while less than 21% of your (far more voluminous) posts have.

It's true. When my 16-year-old is over, she turns off the lights and locks herself in her room and watches Netflix for hours on end. We live in a small town where you can walk to the park, the gas station, the swimming pool, but she'd rather sit in the dark and Snapchat and watch TV.

The other bizarre thing they do is watch videos of other people playing video games. I will never understand that.

Holy cow I'm not alone!! :amen

My 14yr old and 10yr old mainly watch netflix and YouTube. I also cannot understand watching someone else play video games.

:oldlaugh Such elegant words from a 2 bit hack, just out to get likes. Thank god, you breeze by them. I would hate for anyone to have to put up with the foul stench of your continued BS.

This thread was dead after the first fake news post. Dish doesn't have the money to buy Directv while also trying to fund the cellular 5G startup costs. The rest is just mindless internet conjecture. :argue :blah :rolleyes

I feel like this thread has the potential to beat The OFFICIAL DISH / HBO Thread thread for number of posts, but we really aren't trying hard enough to go off-topic or speculate about things in an unqualified manner. We need to pull it together and make this the longest speculative thread ever. We can do it -- I know we can.

Now, who thinks Charlie is going to convince the State AGs that are suing to stop the Sprint-T-Mobile merger that the only way to make the wireless market more competitive is to force AT&T to sell DirecTV to Dish?

Only my opinion but I'm not at all certain Charlie even wants Direct tv unless it's offered to him at a bargain a basement price that he can't refuse, and considering what AT&T paid for it, I don't think that's likely. Of course when he was asked about the possible availability of Direct tv he responded that he'd listen, but unless he can steal it from AT&T, I think Charlie is more focused on his 5g plans

BTW, I think the playing field has changed considerably from the older days when there would have been objections to any merger.
