DISH, DirecTV to merge?

I do think eventually DISH will buy the assets of DIRECTV, I just don't think that time will be now.

Charlie has too many coals on the fire. He is building the first stand along 5G network (and will do it with or without the deal with T Mobile) as it is being built as I type this. With the T Mobile deal it speeds things up and give DISH more.

AT&T seems to turn everything it touches into crap, and I am saddened to see what they have done with DIRECTV. The innovation there is gone. Are they even working on any new satellite equipment? Would have been nice to have a receiver that had 4K built in.

But I do see somewhere in the future DISH getting DIRECTV.

Sure Claude may not like it, but the world will keep on turning. (And Claude will keep spinning with it) :)

You all should understand why this surfaced again, now. It had nothing to do with Dish Network or Charlie Ergan, unless he secretly approached the source of this history repeat and put them up to it which I doubt. Ergan spoke after the Elliot letter to AT&T was public and he made no mention about it, rather, spoke to other areas Dish was planning to focus on.

This week, Elliot Associates and Elliot International sent a letter to Randall Stephenson making a number of suggestions. In it they strongly listed DirecTV be divested to improve profitability of AT&T. Elliot owns $3.2B of interest in AT&T. Here is the letter you can read and stop speculating about Dish as there is nothing in it suggesting Dish buy or merge with DirecTV. But, many in the media fabricated this Dish - DirecTV M&A.

I agree with Scott, it may happen. It is logical it will happen. But for now, it is not clear that Stephenson will even put DirecTV up for sale just because a 1% stock holder suggested it

DIRECTV has said for a number of years their set top model was to have a central server, the HS17 in this case, with clients on all the TV which for 4K is the C61K. That said I wouldn't count on seeing anything new coming for a standalone receiver.

Holy cow I'm not alone!! :amen

My 14yr old and 10yr old mainly watch netflix and YouTube. I also cannot understand watching someone else play video games.
My 14 and 11 yr old daughters stopped watching Netflix years ago. It's all YouTube now and they also watch kids playing with the same toys that they have! Same Dolls, same everything. It's mind boggling

I do not care if it comes from Satellite or Internet and do not care what the company is called. I will stay with Dish for one reason. I really like how the Hopper 3 and Joey system functions. From Storage space, the number of tuners to the responsiveness (Lack of Lag) of the the Joeys. To me it is not just about what I can watch but how easy it is to watch it. As things stand currently the Dish hopper/Joey system beats any system in any category by any provider. As long as this hold true I will be with Dish.

Mine too. 10 year old daughter, it's all YouTube. I occasionally get her to watch old movies on dish from when I was a kid..

I still don’t say Charlie will ever build a 5G network. I would be willing to bet a steak dinner (Ruth Chris) on that!

The only thing Dish will ever get their hands is the 11 transponders at 119 and 3 transponders at 110, and that will be probably in exchange to AT&T for some wireless spectrum Charlie is sitting on and never had any intentions on using.

A few weeks ago, I used YouTube to sit up all night with my 14 yr old watching George Carlin, old Howie Mandel, Richard Pryor, et al. All the old great comedians and their HBO specials, etc from back in the day. It was the 1st time my kid and I kicked together like that. I waited 14 years for that night to get here

I just laugh every time you say that while we're watching him do just what he said. Man, you're in denial, dude.

[QUOTE="Now, who thinks Charlie is going to convince the State AGs that are suing to stop the Sprint-T-Mobile merger that the only way to make the wireless market more competitive is to force AT&T to sell DirecTV to Dish?

Only my opinion but I'm not at all certain Charlie even wants Direct tv unless it's offered to him at a bargain a basement price that he can't refuse, and considering what AT&T paid for it, I don't think that's likely. Of course when he was asked about the possible availability of Direct tv he responded that he'd listen, but unless he can steal it from AT&T, I think Charlie is more focused on his 5g plans

BTW, I think the playing field has changed considerably from the older days when there would have been objections to any merger.[/QUOTE]
Don’t forget that Charlie Hayes ATT. Charlie is the one that announced In 2009 that he will never work with them ever again. This is one of the very few areas I would assume that Charlie would let his feelings get in the way.... and the only way he will take DTV is if it hurts them more. It’s sad because they once had a beautiful relationship.

We (Dish retailers) where supposed to have a cellular Network by 2012 so we could internet to customers.

That never happened.

Besides the few fake 5G test sites, that Charlie got some idiot to lease to him for a song and a dance and some free Kangaroo Tv channels , where is this supposed 5G Network?

They haven’t even started construction, and the licenses expire when?

C’mon, Charlie can’t work with ANY company.

Every time they team with another company to offer some unique product, the relationship goes sour or fades away.

Yeah, AT&T was probably the worst one to partner with Dish.

The worst part about the Dish/AT&T deal is they hired hundreds of employees to do the quality assurance. When AT&T left Dish, they stuck all the Quality Assurance agents on the national sales partners like myself. So what was AT&T’s problem, became my problem.

What do you mean they haven't started construction? They started building Towers earlier this year and we've done IoT Setups throughout our area. Not test sites, Real IoT Antennas and real towers
Denial, Claude. It's real.

I bet Charlie does build a 5G network. I would rather have a Texas Roadhouse Ribeye please!. I think they are much better than Ruth Chris and a hell of lot better price.

I might agree, I had a ribeye at the Texas Roadhouse in Grand Island, NE a few years back and it was great! It was also very well priced...
