DISH, DirecTV to merge?

They started building Towers earlier this year and we've done IoT Setups throughout our area. Not test sites, Real IoT Antennas and real towers

I did not know this. Is this IoT through Ergen's 5G network? :eeek What equipment uses that? How much does Ergen charge?

A handful of 5G towers is nowhere near a nationwide 5G network ready to start selling to new customers.

And where are you going to get a Kangaroo branded cell phone?

Your local Dish Network Retailer?

Ha ha ha ha

AT&T can’t even get their Directv retailers interested enough to sell their wireless garbage.

The perfect opportunity was with the blockbuster stores, and they let those go after that project failed.

Oh yeah and while Dish is building this fake wireless network they are going to take over Directv also.

Hopper mobile is just a pipe dream.

A handful of 5G towers pretty much sums up the entire 5G rollout from all companies combined.

Agreed!

But here is the issue. I can get a 5G capable phone and go between 4G and 5G towers today.

Dish has got to build out an entire network before they can sign up the first customer.

And do you really think any of the other carriers out there are going to help Dish out by allowing 4g roaming on their network?

Dish is on their own!

The Boost thing still has not been approved either.

Your sour grapes when it comes to all things Ergen is getting a bit old. But what the heck, never let it be said I tried to censor someone.

For me, if I had a 5G phone, I’d be in for a road trip to even try it out. I think Indianapolis is the closest and that’s a few hours away over a really crappy interstate!

So far 5G is a dud! The current phone hardware can’t do 5G for long before you need to do some active cooling, and I’m not talking just a fan! So while you could do 5G, you couldn’t do it for long.

As to what agreements Ergen would have to make with others, well it is all about the Benjamins.

I couldn't care less about 5G. I routinely get speeds over 100mbps on Verizon. Why would I need anything faster than that on a cell phone? It has absolutely zero value for me. I also live in such a remotely rural area that 5G home broadband service will never come here. Again, zero value for me.

I have 50/20 DSL and those speeds only arrived here a few months ago.

DIRECTV has said for a number of years their set top model was to have a central server, the HS17 in this case, with clients on all the TV which for 4K is the C61K. That said I wouldn't count on seeing anything new coming for a standalone receiver.

But what they have now is junk. Would be nice to see a stand along or a more powerful 4K box.

No one is getting 5G today. At best, a few spots have something called more or less 5G. Standards are still in flux.

As to what carrier will join with Dish- T-Mobile. It’s part of the settlement.

And there certainly are regional networks today. Some with roaming to varying degrees.

How come the expert ended up here instead of out there making a difference ?

I agree. The HS17 is garbage unless they allow other equipment on the account.

They need a new stand alone HD box that can do 4K and a stand alone DVR. Or just allow multiple genies.

It’s sad that we are installing equipment in commercial accounts that was manufactured in 2011/2012

Ergen is getting old indeed, but as long as he is CEO, Dish is going nowhere.

The man is not stupid. He is not investing his money into this project. That’s why it’s not built yet. If he had found a way to use other peoples money, it would have been built 7 years ago.

It's not the HS17 is a POS, it's DIRECTV's policy of no other receivers on the account. When I was testing it I had a H44 (with drive), HR44 and HR54 up and running and they all worked fine together. The only issue was making sure which mini's you wanted associated with which Genie, which is something they could fix with some programming.

That’s what makes it a POS.

I don’t know about you, I prefer NOT using a client to access Tv

Don't know why not. The only things I can't do is PIP and ESPN3 which I could with the original Genie boxes, which I never really used anyway. I have three C61K's and three C61W's and they work just fine. I put a C61W on the back of a TV using velcro strips, all you see is an extension cord running up the wall to the TV.

Doesn’t this kinda tell everyone what ATT thinks of the DTV future? I gather they are not putting a dime into development.

Maybe it’s true they don’t plan on any DTV in five years. Or are we down to four?

Dish is doing the same thing forcing a hopper and Wally on everyone.
