We just got a new roof, and the installers had to remove our dishes. I have an appointment scheduled to reinstall the dishes on Tuesday. Unfortunately, I just found out that the Emmy Awards are being broadcast tomorrow. Recording them is an import thing to do in our house. So I have about 24 hours to come up with a solution

My setup is old. I have a 722k, a dish 500 and another dish with only 1 lnb, which I guess makes it a dish 300?
the LNB on the dish 300 says it is a dish pro. the installation had one 1 cable from the dish 300 to the dish 500, and 2 cables from the dish 500 to the 722k. the 500 was pointed at 110 and 119, and the 300 was at 121

I was able to access the dish 300 and disconnect it. The dish 500 is significantly harder to get to. I mounted it on a makeshift stand, put it out in the driveway, ran a single line from it back to my 722k, aligned it to 110 and was able to get a pretty good signal. I am able to watch any of the shows that are on 110, which includes our local Fox station, so we will be able to watch the Emmy Awards. Yea!

However, the program guide will not download. I currently can see about 2 hours out, then "No Info Available" for about a day and a half, then nothing. If I try to go past this, I get a dialog stating that the program information is outdated and offers to retrieve program information now. If I select yes, it will try for about 10-15 minutes, then stop and I still do not have a program guide.

No big deal, except that it seem I can not record without the program guide.

I have reset the 722k by unplugging it. I have run check switch a few times.
check switch reports that only port 2 on Satellite Input 1 is "OK",
It also states this is a DPP Twin w/Separator, so does that mean dish pro plus?

Still not program guide and therefore no recording and therefor I am in trouble :(

Questions
Is it even possible to get the complete program guide from only 110 or do I need to see 119 as well?
Or is the problem that I only have one cable run?
I really don't want to try to climb up on the roof, get the LNB that can see both 110 and 119 if I don't have to.

Thanks

So I dug around and found enough cable and barrel connectors to run another line. I did a check switch, and now it is reporting that both satellite inputs, 1 and 2 have only one port, they are on 110 and they are OK.
Of note, they are now reporting DP Dual. that is what I thought they would be.

Anyway, went through another round of downloading the guide, and this time it was successful. And I have verified that I can indeed record. No doghouse for me :)

Anyway, not sure if 2 lines were required, or somehow the check switch failed and reported the wrong type, or it just worked for some reason this time.
Thanks for playing along

That is old school. the 121 is not used for residential anymore. The tech that comes out will be (Should be) updating your dish to a 1000.2 that hits 110, 119 and 129

Yes, with these dual-tuner receivers, it is always a good idea to connect the same satellite signal to both input ports on the back of the receiver. They do not seem to like it if there is only one port connected, or if there is a different satellite connected to each port. It may not have been absolutely necessary for two cable runs, but you would have needed to use a DP Separator (as the first check switch indicated) to connect the single cable to both input ports so that they could both see the same satellite signal. Since it is now working, it is probably best to just leave it as it is, and enjoy the Emmys. :)

that is the plan
