I HATE Google Assistant

That's odd, because I demo it at every new customer and it always brings up the actual show. I've searched for Master Chef, Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, Buffalo Bills, et al and always works. One thing, though, the customer's not logged into their Google account when I'm demoing
Well you know why yours works, you have "Demo" mode. Just like TVs. One mode for the showroom and one for home. You have Demo Mode and we have "Home" Mode.

Did you ever find "Follow-up Mode" on the Echo?

Demo mode??? Dude, I'm just a customer with the same equipment as everyone else.

As for Alexa, I for got about that. I've had it unplugged for some time

"DUDE!!!" I'm joking!! For the most part . . . But I have had crap returns on most all queries I have made. BUT it can control my lights, run scenes and stuff without a hub! That's pretty cool.

Echo: Alexa Mobile app > Devices (Icon in lower right corner) > Echo & Alexa (Icon upper left) > Select the device you want to change this on > Scroll way down below General and it's right below "Wake Word".

So how can I set up my Nest Thermostat. I'm using Apple products.

Mine is working better as time goes on.....
You need the Nest App and once you create an account/log in, Add Device and follow the prompts. The ones we have are Generation 3.

My STB was going Nutz! Not to mention GA has been worthless! So just now I lost total control over the box and had a program running with the Pause marker in the lower right corner and a count up indicator all at the same time. Nothing I could do would let me change channels, pause or nothing. So pulled the power.

When it came back it did not restart normally, a program came on and I had control back. I went to voice search and GA was gone and I had the old voice search/interface. I've used it several times and no nothing ever said about GA.... I connected to the Internet at 396Mbps as per the Status test. So it's not as if it is not seeing the Internet. Just changed channels with it again.... No GA.

Am I dreaming?!

"NEVER MIND!!" I was testing a new router and I guess it wouldn't let the GA access the "Mothership" so the search reverted to the old one. When I changed back to my normal router, GA was able to once again reach the Mothership and it's back. I knew it was too good to be true!

So if one can find the port(s) that GA uses and block them . . . You can kill GA and get the old Search back . . .

I suppose Dish wants people to use Google assistant because they sent me a complementary 54.0 remote with instructions to set it up for use with google assistant. I have no use for google assistant, nor do I have any use for the 54.0 remote. Call me old fashioned but I remain happy and most comfortable using the 40.0.

I myself had joined this message thread back on August 23rd. I still come back to peruse the message boards, and then I saw that this thread was resurrected recently. I myself am not a fan of the Google Assistant Voice, either.

So......can you give me a little more detail on what you mean? I'm pretty good with computer tech, so, if I access my router by logging into it.....how do I do what you are describing? That part you mentioned about "...if one can find the port(s) that GA uses and block them . . . You can kill GA and get the old Search back".

I know not all routers are exactly the same, but what should I look for? Can you give me a general navigation of a router and what to look for? Tell me what it looks like on your router, then I'll look for something similar on mine.

It'd be so cool if I could - like you put it - "kill GA and get the old Search back".

I look forward to your answer.

First, I Love Pez. OK, that's out of the way. There's two things to consider here:

1. Corralling all the MAC Addresses that these boxes have, so that depending on the way ones particular router works you can either do Address Reservations based on the MAC Address that can be used as a "location" to block the ports for. Or script the blocks directly to the MAC Addresses. The first one would be far easier. But I have had serious IP Address problems with the Hoppers. There are many variables depending on the manufacturer of the router.

2. Now the hard part, to find out what those ports are. I did it by accident in the middle of a Beta Test meltdown. And I just asked GA what ports she needs to operate and she popped up a ton of porn on YouTube. I think that's her way of saying.....

I humorously for the most part, at least in my head, posted this thinking a "real" techie might be able to find out what the ports are for fun. And posing some hope that someone severely talented that has some time, just might suss this out.

But first one needs to get past the STBs over abundance of MAC Addresses. Oh and find the ports.
