New Model Release: OS MIO+ 4K S2X + S2

I lobbied real hard with Edision for all Mio and Mio+ units to include a power supply with type A or type B plug starting with this new shipment. Took many orders to get this proper accessory, but we finally reached a point where enough units are being sold in North America for Edision to consider this a good business decision! :biggrin

Would this adapter work for the original model? The other one linked in the thread is no longer available.
 
You may need to buy one to test. Many switching power supplies output interference that can affect STB performance. Adding a clip-on ferrite to the DC cord often attenuates this interference.

Several years ago, had to return hundreds of power supplies to a distributor as they caused interference to the STB tuner.

I'm in the market for a new receiver since I accidentally broke my U4 Quad's remote control, and replacements are not available. (It fell on the floor and then my rocking chair crushed it, oops).

Since I do a lot of blind scanning for news feeds, I would like the ability to adapt it for my needs (if necessary).

Questions about the OS Mio+ 4K:
1) Is the source code for El Bandido's blind scan plugin available?
2) Are the programmer's technical docs available for the tuner(s) and demodulator?
3) Is all the source code necessary to compile an image available?
4) I noticed there is a OS Mio+ 4K listing on the website that currently says 'Sold Out'. When is it estimated that they will ship?
5) Are replacement remote controls available in case I break it?

E2 is open source. The image is unencrypted and a user can modify. You might chat with El Bandido and consider contributing to TNAP image.

2) Are the programmer's technical docs available for the tuner(s) and demodulator? A great resource for this information is to join a dev group like OpenPLI or OE Alliance. Images are based on these distros.

3) Is all the source code necessary to compile an image available?

Have them in stock, but no general public sales until TNAP is released. Call me Monday to discuss.

Thanks for the information. These are the links I found from what you said - oe-alliance and Forums Please let me know if those are wrong.

My interests are:
1) Experimenting with blind scanning
2) Seeing if I can make an OS Mio image that receives raw data from GOES-16 and 17 GRB (weather satellites). GRB requires two inputs so the Mio+ could be perfect for this application. So far I have programs that work with select STV tuners and demodulators (programs named GRB Streamer and GRB Imager). They require low-level hardware register access.

Anyway, could be an interesting winter project. But first I will have to do some research and determine if the hardware can pass raw BB frames to the software, or if its just transponder stream (TS) only.
 
From what I read the OS Mio + 4K uses the Broadcom BCM72604 SoC. I looked everywhere to find documentation about the BCM72604 and could not find anything. Even a search on Broadcom's website turned up nothing.

If anyone knows where to get programming documentation for the BCM72604, please let me know.
 
^^^^ It appears that Broadcom is keeping the BCM72604 documentation private, or just giving it to select manufacturers. So unfortunately it doesn't look like I would be able to access the low level chip registers.
 
I was just told over at Ricks that the information I seek is proprietary. At best I think there would be 30 new sales as a result. It would have been an interesting project.
 
I have signed many nondisclosure agreements for equipment development. While I highly doubt that a development agreement would be opened for 30 units (more likely minimum 10k), I wouldn't be so easily dissuaded by a forum comment...

No, of course, no one is going to release their proprietary docs for the potential of selling 30 units.

... I digress off topic a bit: Quorum Communications sells a receiver called the 'GRB-200' which receives the DVB-S2 signal from the GOES-16 and 17 satellites and streams it over ethernet to image processing workstations. They charge $20K per receiver!

Currently I am providing free software with similar functionality for TBS and Digital Devices PCI cards. But it requires a PC running 24/7. It would be nice to have a standalone box, like the OS Mio+ to do this. It (and many other satellite boxes) are probably physically capable. But as of yet I have not found a standalone box which provides the necessary programming information.

Rick's forum sells Rick's stuff, and doesn't promote or even recommend anything else. In fact it's possible to get banned recommending other stuff. While I've bought from him and would again, statements such as you said were mentioned, I wouldn't trust for a second.

If you really are this interested so far, I'd do as Brian says and continue to pursue it. At least until the manufacturer themselves tell you the same thing.
 
Mike, I hear you -- don't believe everything you read on the internet. :) But to their credit, some of the guys at Rick's (CrazyCat and some others) helped me figure out how to get I2C register access from Windows. I think as long as we don't mention cheap Chinese receivers by name over there we're OK.

Still, I have nothing to lose by calling Broadcom and asking for the documentation. If they did provide it, it would have to be as a gesture of goodwill since they have little to gain from it.

It's also possible that I could accomplish what I need by using the exposed functionality provided by the BCM72604 device driver. Will require studying of the SatDreamGR code to determine that.

I have read that version 6.3 of OpenATV doesn't blindscan on the OS Mio -- here: Blindscan Broken Latest 6.3 Edision Os Mio 4K

Which version of OpenATV is preinstalled on the OS Mio+ 4Ks that you are selling, and does it blindscan OK here in N.A.?
 
We have the Mio+ in stock and will begin website and Ebay sales when new TNAP image is ready for release. Would rather hold onto stock than sell something that isn't ready for release.

El Bandidio has the Mio+ TNAP image successfully blind scanning and the image is currently in testing.

Brian, I appreciate your candor. I'm not ready (or able) to compile my own yet, so I'll wait till it ships with TNAP.

Meanwhile, wife finally said "yes" to a UHD TV and 4K DVD plyer. That will keep me busy while I wait for the Mio+ to ship. :)

Will this receiver handle the AAC audio compression codec that many of the radio channels on 105W use? I have not found an E2 image yet on multiple receivers that will play those channels. My Spark based Icecrypt receiver will play them but neither my Zgemma or 4K Octagon will play them. I’ve tried OpenAtv, OpenPli as well as OpenVix which is my default image. From my investigation it appears to be a licensing issue for the chipsets that none of the E2 STB manufacturers have included. I guess most of these receivers are designed for the EU markets and few of their satellites use AAC audio. I really don’t need another receiver but if the Mio will do AAC confirmed I’ll pull the trigger.
