“THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL” GAMES OFFERED IN 4K ON FOX

They said the reason they were upscaling is because it would be very expensive to do the full production in 4K due to the use of stuff like super slo mo. Remember the golf isn't doing the whole event in 4K, they pick a few holes and don't need to worry about stuff like super slo mo which uses special cameras that aren't 4K (some of the fastest ones that capture stuff like the ball compressing against the clubface aren't even color)

I suppose there is little incentive for them to spend a ton of money to do 4K because it isn't going to increase the viewing audience or commercial rates. Nobody is watching an NFL game solely because it is in 4K.

Alot of people did watch because it was in 4k. Wayyy more. The Fox sports app crashed because of it and the complaint factor was up dramatically compared to other events. I would imagine once the ratings come out there will be a significant bump compared to other events.

However, I'd guess the jump in viewership is not one that it will sustain ... once people see the 4k (when it gets figured out) the numbers will settle into slightly more than originally.
With the 4k being new, is why it jumped.

Well after reading the posts about yesterdays NFL game it's quite a mixed bag.
Some say the picture was great and some say it was terrible.
Sound good for some bad for others. Pixelation, black screens dropouts.

Wonder if they will get it together next Thursday.

The person who posted about the Fox Sports APP and the great picture.
I'm guessing that it was just HD.
They never offer 4k via their APP. Is that correct?
And the APP currently does not do HDR? Correct?

Is this APP different from the Fox Sports Go APP that you have with Apple TV or Fire TV streaming boxes.

In reading the various posts sure sounds like Fox Sports and the NFL are acting as cheap and the can get.
This should have been done right from the get go with real 4k HDR cameras and master control all the way
thru to our TV sets. In 2019 it's not hard to produce a good live sporting event. Hell I'd be happy if they just buy a bunch
of 4k Iphones and have them at various angles. At $1,000 bucks a phone compared to $10,000 - $100,000 for each camera on the pro side.
They could have 20 - 30 different Iphones set up all over the f'ing stadium and feed them to master control via live streaming.
Just switch back and forth.

And it would all look better than 1080P Upconverted.

They are just being CHEAP.

On a side note I believe in the England every single Premiere League soccer match is now recorded in Real 4k 50P (over there it's 50P I think).
And possibly the same is true for German and Italian leagues for pro Euro soccer.
Certainly the Europe Champions League is now all 4k.

The BBC did a test the past year with 4K HDR for a big soccer match.
But they've spent the money to record in Real 4k AND LET Viewers see all these matches in 4k.

Why the F is the US so backward with these billion / trillion dollar networks and leagues.

I do not want to keep waiting for 5 or 10 more years to get everything in REAL 4k.

And I would actually like 8K HDR here NOW.
Apparently you need to live in Japan for this reality.

Our country should be leading the world in technology and it seems like we're just getting more and more behind.

Unfortunately the lighting port can not output 4K video.

Not up on my Iphone top models.

But surely Samsung's Note or S9/S10 could send out 4k HDR.
They seem to always be a few steps ahead of Apple.
Still in the same $1k price as the 4k iphone.

It was in 4K on the Fox Sports App but not HDR. Amazon Prime was only 1080P

Thanks.

Can you tell me more about the Fox Sports APP.

This is diffrent from Fox Sports Go?

And is the Fox Sports APP only for smart phones?

Has the Fox Sports APP ever had anything in the past in 4k HDR?

Do you have to have a tv provider to use the Fox Sports APP?

Appreciate your help.

Regarding Amazon Prime this would be streaming using a Roku or AppleTV, etc.

Besides tv shows and movies does Amazon ever do anything in sports 4k and 60P.

Thanks again. bjf

Thanks.

The internet streaming and smart phone APP's keep offering more and more choices.
Hard to keep up on it all.

I'm sure there were a lot of people watching the NFL on Thursday because it was in 4k. I rarely ever watch Thursday night games, but I made sure to be home because I knew the game would be in 4k. I would not be watching Notre Dame games if it wasn't in 4k. Some of the college football games that have been in 4k from Fox aren't the best matchups. But I have tuned in every single time just because it's in 4k. I am not a soccer fan at all, but I made sure to watch the Men's and Women's World Cup because it was in 4k. Same with Premier League. I rarely watch baseball because the Rangers have sucked since 2012. But I have watched the MLB games because it was in 4k. I only watched golf (masters, pebble beach etc) because it was beautiful in 4k. I am not a hockey fan at all, but I made sure to watch the 4k NHFL broadcasts. I have NBA league pass and Sunday ticket, but I mostly just keep up with my teams (Longhorns, Cowboys, Mavs). I do watch every game that's on NBA on TNT though. But don't usually have time for other NBA games...but I have watched every NBA game that has been shown in 4k. Anyways my point is 4k def does entice me to watch events and games that I normally wouldn't watch. And I'm sure there are a lot of other people who are just like me. A lot of people have 4k tv's but still don't know that 4k sports has been available since 2016.

I like you, tuned in BECAUSE this weeks game was on in 4k ...
However, that doesn't mean I'm going to tune into Every 4k event like you are .... if MY Team is in 4k, of course, or other Top teams I may tune in, but to watch something I'm just not interested in, I think I would pass ...

That said, this was my 1st Sports 4k event ...
Once it wears off or more get shown on a regular basis, I probably won't as much.

Btw, is the MLB Playoffs going to be in 4k ?

Fwiw,
I'm trying to watch the Notre Dame vs Virginia game in 4k on Directv channel 105 ...
It looks GREAT, till theres fast movement ... which is a LOT of a football game and the picture gets real blocky.

I will try the work around this known issue by going to 206 and then back to 105 and see if that clears up the blockiness ...
