Passdue amount

That receiver is dead in the water unless you pay the previous amount that is owed. Dish would rather have their receivers go into the dumpster than to offer a deal to a new owner.

I don't think that's the situation at all. I think DISH does not want to reward delinquent accounts who sell the equipment. If DISH allows these receivers to be used without the account being paid, that would give the sellers a market for the equipment.

It's like paying ransom to kidnappers, it just encourages other kidnappings.

If you are a dealer there used to be a process to get the balance removed.

I remember they started doing this because the dealers would literally have hundreds of receivers from deadbeat customers.

We would have no choice but to sell them to the hackers.

The dealers didn’t care since we already got burned for the commission and had to get our month back some how.

But depending on the balance, Dish wants it paid before they will let you use the box. If it’s more than $25 on a Wally or $50 on a hopper I would trash it.

Even if the balance was paid Dish may still not release it

What is the advantage in buying a receiver. You still have to pay the monthly rental fee. If it fails you lost your investment.

Probably the biggest is that it allows you to activate/deactivate a receiver as needed or desired and avoid the monthly fees. A lot of folks do this with Joeys that only get used occasionally.

If it fails DISH will replace it if it is activated. You do not lose your investment. You will have to pay to have it shipped however.

I bought a Joey 3 from eBay that was supposed to be free & clear, it wasn't & seller refunded my money (then suspiciously disappeared). Dish said there was nothing they could do it was locked to another account & wouldn't even tell me if there was a balance on it. They didn't want it back so I threw it away it was useless.

Is there someone who can help me clean the reciver I was told past due amount is 1000 or there is no hope
Oh no, Triton! I can definitely understand why that would be completely frustrating! I can't say I would feel an ounce differently. To remove equipment from a previous account, and add it to a new one, the previous account would have to be in good standing with no outstanding balance. The receiver would also need to be marked 'Purchased'. Since we would need the Account Information to clear the balance or share whether it would be 'Purchased'. As other users did suggest, I would contact the seller to see if they could contact us to get it removed or request a refund. -Caleb S

I see the logic there, but what about the innocent person who may buy that receiver at a Goodwill, etc? The Dish receivers I have seen at Goodwill, and there have been a lot them through the years. Those are donated. No money exchanges hands, unless someone buys the receiver. The poor guy that buys the receiver hoping to get it activated is the one holding the bag.

DISH will still replace it even if you own it. I know it for a fact, I have owned all my receivers on all 3 of my DISH accounts for almost 23 years now. Never had DISH refuse to replace one. Still shows as OWNED when I replace them too.
