A lot of approvals have to happen before the T-mobile /Sprint merger is to happen and that is what Charlie is hanging his hopes on for the 5g thing to come online and the FCC has to approve the new deadline that Charlie wants to make that 5g thing happen. Unless the FCC approves the new deadline and the merger actually goes through, it still won't happen. The original deadline is less than 6 months from now. So until I see it come online, I won't believe it will happen. ;)
DOJ and FCC already approved. Awaiting the conclusion of the states suing.

You get FOX News? How about USA or SciFi? The channel selection is thin at best. You have to buy a substandard box for each additional TV. The DVR is pitiful. No locals unless you can get them from an antenna, and on and on.

Glad you're happy with it but most people definitely wouldn't be.
There is Newsmax for conservative news. I have fox news on my sirius xm sub.
I could care less about scifi or USA. Orby obviously didn't get strike up contracts with them because those providers likely are high priced channels. That would go against orby 's business model of being low priced. I can appreciate what orby is doing. It's a bargain service alternative for people who do not watch sports. I do not watch sports. For the most part I do not care about politics or news. That stuff is all a dog and pony dance anyway to entertain the sheep.

The article that announced that Dish was going to part of the Sprint/T-Mobile merger gave the deadline date of 2023 to be fully running

Those are high priced channels because they're popular channels that deliver a lot of content that a large number of people watch. The fact that you don't is great...... for you! Other people have other needs

Everybody has to have all the tech. DVRs, online access, etc. All drives up the cost. We are teching everything out of reach for all but high income level people.

I'd buy internet by satellite if it could deliver the same speeds as cable. Where I live, I'm guarenteed to have some long term cable outage every two or three years during the winter. Tree limbs are wiping out power and cable TV lines all the time during heavy snow. I have a generator. So, that's what keeps me on satellite TV. It would be great to also have internet ready to go, once the generator turns on.

Raw speeds aside, do you really want latency and jitter like this?

First set of pings on on satellite, second set of pings is on cable.

Now that statement is going to make Claude very unhappy. He is so intent on the fact that it's all hocus pocus and will never be built... :)

Even if they do build it, who is going to subscribe to it?

Where are you going to buy the service? Your local Dish Network retailer? AT&T can’t even get its retailers to sell cell phones, the Dish Network retailers are going to be much harder to get to sell cell phones.

Then you got Boost Mobile, however most of those stores are a hole in the wall anyways with bullet proof glass separating the customer and store employees.

Dish has block buster, the perfect locations to have a dish network store and to cell their phones.

I can’t see it happening. They need to build out the entire network before they can get the first customer, otherwise they need to do roaming contracts with other providers.

Do you really want to see your cell phone coverage blacked out when Charlie gets in a dispute with another carrier over roaming fees that he has to pay?

The whole thing is a joke, until someone comes along and takes the licenses off Charlie’s hands so he can finally retire

I wonder, with the nostalgia aspect, if Dish wouldn't be smart to re-brand Boost to Blockbuster Mobile.

As for AT&T, it is a real pain to go to my local AT&T stores because they are so full of folks signing up for Fiber and fleeing Verizon's congested network around here. The only happy Verizon customers in my area are those on business plans, who get top priority. Everyone else suffers.

IF the T-mobile /Sprint merger goes through first right? If they don't merge and the states suing them win, then doesn't that mean that DISH will have the original 2020 deadline? Or is it going to remain the new FCC 2023 deadline regardless?

I dunno. That's a good question

They won't be selling "cell phones"...I thought the plan was " cellular broadband "

I heard that AT&T was going to merge with Verizon, but then DirecTV was going to merge with Dish, then HBO was going to be bought by FOX, but then be traded to Disney for ownership of ABC and ESPN. FOX was going to become FOX Red and ABC was going to become FOX Blue, all in homage to the NBC Red and NBC Blue networks of the radio days, then ESPN was going to be traded to Comcast, who also is buying all of Dish's cellular spectrum in a separate deal, for ownership of NBC and Universal properties. Xfinity Mobile will become a prime competitor to the newly merged AT&T/Verizon. All the while, Cinemax is being retained by the newly merged AT&T/Verizon, who is making it a prime competitor to HBO, Showtime, Starz, and EPIX. So Dish will get back HBO in a new deal with Disney, but Cinemax will remain off Dish. Finally, AT&T U-Verse is also merging with Dish to become Dish Cable Primestar, while the merged Dish and DirecTV becomes Dish Satellite Primestar.

Try unwinding that ball of nonsense!!!

Just one question, where's does Encore Westerns fit in with this scenario. Love me some Encore Westerns.

I like how these news articles keep popping up, but if one actually reads them, every single one of them is outside people talking, and then the quotes at the bottom of “ATT has stated they are not eyeing a merger possibility” or something to that effect.
