Did Direct pick up enough Dish subscribers due to the HBO drop to offset the financial loss from Dish dropping HBO? I see no proof of that at all...
My entire point was that the numbers you gave (and the numbers davideo gave) do not prove anything at all. We need the 2019 numbers. However, by the 2018 numbers, it certainly doesn't seem like the loss of Dish carrying HBO for the final two months had much of a negative impact on AT&T's executives' pay. :biggrin

There's also no way to compare the numbers since AT&T is a much larger company made up of multiple divisions. Maybe comparing the head of the DTV division with Charlie's payout would be a better comparison if that number is published.

Yes, there is that. But for the folks that lost HBO on DISH it’s another way for most. The price is the same as DISH was charging and it would seem that they would just as soon people go in that direction.
Except of course that a lot of those Dish HBO subscribers had been grandfathered at a lower rate. ;)
 
That expired September 20, before the takedown in November.
Either way, it was a price increase. Then there were those who had free HBO as a promo. I still had free HBO at the time of the takedown. My point is that Dish often had better deals available for HBO than you can ever achieve by subscribing to HBO NOW. I suppose it may be possible to find discounts on HBO NOW gift cards from time to time. However, then you have to go through the hassle of looking for those deals and redeeming gift cards, instead of the convenience of simply calling a traditional pay-TV provider and asking for a lower rate.

They were 40% off last Black Friday at Best Buy( I bought enough that I have HBO Now until July 2020 ) and they are 20% off right now also at BB, but I would hold off on stocking up until we know what is going on with HBO MAX ( is it replacing Now, separate service).

See that's the issue. Instead of just updating the existing service, they have to make a new service to a relatively new service that was launch to a new service. It seems that the brass at HBO doesn't know whether to (explative) or wind their watch. How do you expect people to be confident in your service when you continuously go out of your way to complicate things.
