Playboy TV (simple, non-explicit question)

My wife asked if we could subscribe to an adult channel the other day, and who am I to complain. :) My first instinct was to get TEN...I've only seen it once or twice, but it seems like a good balance of explicitness and mainstream material. But $23 a month is pretty steep. And, since I work at home, I don't really want the temptation of hardcore porn 20 feet away every time I hit a "block" in my work.

I've heard that Playboy TV has moved into more explicit films in their evening hours, but only on a particular feed- called "Director's Cut". Is this the feed DISH gets? We live in the west, so these films would start at 8 or 9- right around the time we would want to watch them.

I haven't seen Playboy TV since the early 90's, and I think my wife's dad had it in the 80's, so we have the same perception of it...bleach blonds bouncing on the beach in soft-focus slow motion. I'm not really interested in that, and I know my wife isn't.

Also, I'm not fond of most of what I've seen in the last ten years as far as adult films goes. I worked in a mainstream vid shop in the early 90's that rented out a lot of 70's-90's erotica that would qualify as art and/or good entertainment- Andrew Blake, Dark Brothers, Rinse Dream, ect. Seems like everything now is super cheap and super sleazy. Any chance that Playboy might have a little more class than TEN? (Or if not, is it at least as good?)

So, without getting into too much detail, are there any married couples out there who enjoy Playboy TV? (Together? :) )

M Sparks I will not pay dish $23 per month for an adult channel when you can get 100+ channels of explicit adult material for $30 per month on an XTV box.

Thats true!

However if your gonna subscribe to something, TEN Clips is pretty good! The thing I like about it is they cut out all the Bullsh!t and get right to the point.

As far as Playboy, it depends on what your in the mood for. They do show some explicit stuff, but I do like some of their origional programming such as the naked truth.

Thanks, Sean...I'm interested in ITVN, and not just for that, but I live out in the woods, so no true broadband. (I'm on 1-way DirecPC..don't know if it works with WildBlue but I doubt it.) In any case, my problem with the $23 is the $23 itself...not how much I get for it. Paying $7 more for 100x more isn't a solution...I just want to watch a dirty movie with my wife once a week or so.

Claude- I think you're helped me out...I was thinking the same thing about the original programming. I can pay $23 for something that, let's face it, you're only going to watch for 10-20 minutes. Or I can pay $15, and maybe there might be a couple of other things I might watch for actual entertainment or information. As long as that "double X" material is there at least a few hours a night, I don't really care what's on at noon, or dinnertime.

It was rumored here and elsewhere that the Dish "2 movies channels for $20" deal (includes choice of HBO / Cinemax / Starz) could include Playboy as one of the channels if you asked for it. It was supposedly put in one of the retailer chats. I haven't seen anyone on here say they got this deal - so a big YMMV, but maybe worth a call (if you want HBO too).

Actually you can choose Playboy in the 2 for $20 deal. I just got the offer in the mail and in the fine print it does say that Playboy can be substituted upon request.

Yeah, that's the other reason I was considering it. I've got AEP +HD +Locals now, so I would have to drop quite a bit to make it a worthwhile deal. It's the $6 DVR fee that's the sticking point, plus I want Sundance and either Encore or Starz. The math is stupid when you figure the DVR fee in.

Option 1-HD Platnum+ Locals + Playboy= $120

Option 2-HD Gold+ Locals+ HBO/Playboy+ Showtime+ DVR= $113

Option 3-HD Silver+ Locals+ HBO/Playboy+ Showtime/Starz+ DVR= $114

#2 would probably work best- my wife likes a lot of AT180 level channels- so it's a matter of deciding whether Cinemax/Starz is worth $7. I'd say no, unless they get Starz HD on.

I've got HD Platinum+Locals+Pboy= $112

I guess you can get it as a bundle....I also have the Dish Latino Plus add-on for an additional $12 and includes the Spanish Pboy channel too!!! I understand a little spanish but the spanish ladies arrghhhh!!!1 LOL

Spanish playboy? Are you serious?

I'm a non-porn subscriber, but wouldn't it be interesting if D* & E* just admitted that they made all their money on the porn addicts?

Actually I would not go as far as referring to Pboy as Porn (most stuff in there is only X-rated) but yes there is a spanish Playboy channell, 458 if i'm not mistaken. Believe it or not there is a lot of cool programming on it, like ca candid camera (adult style), interviews, etc. But real porn would be like TEN, Spice and that kind and we're not into that (yet,LOL!!!!)

I had Playboy for awhile but didn't find it worth $15.00 a month. The "anatomically accurate" films are at midnight EST seven days a week. Their "Naughty Amateur Home Videos" program was fun and anatomically accurate. My wife liked their "7 lives exposed" reality show...kinda like a naked "the real life."

For the dedicated porn-head, the material probably isn't explicit enough. I found many of the movies had the same cheezy actors and, as always, Playboy seems obcessed with girl-on-girl action. If you like girl-on-girl, then Playboy's for you.

Playboy has more of the "Vivid" quality films with an emphasis on better production values and stories with A list actresses, but they cut out the "happy endings". The Xtcy channels tend to have more of the gonzo films (lower quality) but are totally uncensored.

One big change.... Juli and Tiffany have been bounced (pardon the pun) from Night Calls Live. Jesse Jane will be taking over.

BTW, if you add it to an AEP + Locals subscription it is now $6 cheaper......

check your new bill. They just did this on my February bill...... My bill would have been $6 cheaper if not for the auto renew of Extra Innings.....

I'll be adding HBO in a few weeks for Sopranos starting March 12. For an extra $5, I may actually try Playboy for a while - my wife enjoys most with me except the 'happy ending' portion that may be removed, sometimes anyway.
