I've heard a lot of good things about this front projector. Thinking about using it as the centerpiece of my new media room next year.

Anyone have any experience with it in regular use?

Which JVC model and how much was it... I'm seeing the Sony for $4K in many places and the critics are raving about it in a few magazines I get (Widescreen Review, etc.)

I'll have to find my notes but it's the JVC that was just released. As I remember the Sony combed a bit on reds. Although Sony's SXRD and JVC's D-ILA are pretty much the same technology I have yet to see a comparable Sony beat JVC on PQ, either RP or FP.

We put our money where my mouth is and when our Pioneer in the living room croaked we bought a JVC D-ILA RPTV.

I have done several installs of the VW-50 and it is a nice projector, however I would say the Mitsubishi HC5000 produces both a sharper and brighter picture. They both produce roughly the same black level, which happens to be very very good. If you will be doing a lot of SD viewing, I would actually recommend the new Panasonic AE1000U. This projector produces as good of an HD picture as the other two, but really blows them away with upconverted SD material. Its black level though is not quite as good as the other two. On the plus side the AE1000U produces the brightest picture of the three and to my eyes has the best colors. Keep in mind if you go with the VW-50 almost all installs are currently done with either a Da-Lite High Power Screen or a Vu-Tech SilverStar screen due to the low light output of the VW-50.

If it is the JVC HD1 it will list for $7000 but will street for less. It will not be released in the US till early next year.
