Complete newbie needs help with installation

Yes for both... I tried moving the dish slowly while another person watched but no signal at all... Anything else I should consider?

if the receivor does not have a sat in the check switch screen you might not see the signal on the reveivor even if you are hitting the bird. You might try a cheep meter. And you also might have some bad equipment
 
Get the meter - It helps two ways:

1. Tells you when you are receiving a signal
2. Tells you if you are getting power through the coax cable

The meter I have has a little light in it that will backlight the meter when hooked up. One of my cables had the center wire too short and was not making a connection when hooked up. Swapped out the cable and got the backlight and soon found the sats as well.

You will have to move VERY VERY slowly right to left and back again in the area of the correct azimuth, then if nothing, change your elevation a bit and try again with the azimuth. 119 can be very picky.

You don't have any trees or branches anywhere near the direction the dish is pointing do you?
