Whaaa? I had moved a bunch of .avi movie files to the AzBox drive and I tired to play them last night - "Unknown Video codec" They play fine on my PC in that format... what format do I need to change these movies into to get them to play on the AzBox? Thanks!

TP shows "locked!" but no channel shows up

So, I can see that some of the TPs have good quality, but they don't show up as channels. I can't believe that they're scrambled, since they show up as horizontal or vertical, and I unchecked "scrambled" in the search. Am I missing something here - a magic box to check in the double secret...

Good news - confirmed wireless keyboard working!

I just tried it; a Logitech Pro 2000 wireless keyboard works on the AzBox Ultra - and probably all the rest. It's just a keyboard because I don't think a mouse would do anything. There's a little USB dongle that just plugs in, and you turn on the keyboard and voila! There you have it! The...

I'm about to give up on this AZbox...

I've concluded that "ultra" is short for "ultra frustrating." Every time I try to upgrade firmware, it corrupts the sat list and even though I have it backed up, it still doesn't restore or work correctly. Are there any HD/PVR boxes that don't do this crap?

    FTA: Fine Entertainment!

So, last night we had one of my wife's girlfriends over for dinner. We watched the ball game a little after the meal. Then when the ball game ended, I showed off some of the FTA channels. She was all like "ooohh!" and "aaaah!" about Saudi TV and Asian shows in whatever language. And as I...

AZ Ultra - hosed up after scanning

OK, I finally got my dish up and aimed, and a couple hundred channels showed up. However, now when I got to the TV menu to select a channel, they're all - every last one - grayed out. When I go back to the setup menu to select a sat or do a blind scan on a sat, none of the sats I scanned...

    It's alive!!

Well, you guys can chalk up another mark on the wall for helping yet another clueless newbie get his FTA up and running! and a big THANKS for doing so! I haven't yet figured it all out, but I've got 15-20 channels and I'm still scanning sats for more. I have to tell y'all - it would not be...

    No quality here either. Sigh.

Either I'm channeling "Trying My Best," or I'm just not a quality kinda guy. (My wife would vote for the second option). So, I'm all hooked up with the QPH-031 the WS 9036 dish, the SG9120 motor, the AzBox Ultra. I got it close with the measurements at due south, and then I moved the dish...

    Well, it's up!!

My good friend who can build or fix anything came over this morning at 8:00, and I took the day off work. Together (me holding the ladder more than anything) we finally got this thing up on the roof. The supporting framework is Unistrut, painted to match the house (this is the back of the...

For the 9 millionth time - setting the elevation....

OK, I've searched on this until I'm blue in the face, and that's the problem - I keep coming up with different answers. The motor is an SG 9120 and the dish is a WS 9036. My latitude is 33.32 degrees north. OK, I go to dishpointer dot com, and my closest-to-true-south satellite is Anik F2, at...

    Compression Fittings and the Dummy....

...being, of course, me. OK, I should be all set. I've got real live Leviton RG-6 quad shield cable (I physically counted the shields, I've got a stripping tool, a compression tool, and Perfect Vision / Ridgeloc 360 connectors - the green ones for quad core. I've read like nine sets of...

Trying to come close to cable TV

OK, I'm a reasonably handy and computer literate individual, and I'm willing to invest a couple bucks in FTA if it can be pretty close to as user-friendly as cable. I figure if I can ditch the cable, I can afford to invest $600-$700 or so in a system. Sound reasonable so far? What I need...
