Why does AT&T offer DirecTV and a traditional TV service? (AT&T TV)

They claim "No satellite dish, no cable box, and no appointments necessary" Well isn't that exactly what they're doing with DirecTV? That needs a satellite dish, a box, and sometimes an appointment. I don't get it.

How much to upgrade to a Hopper from my 722

I was told via chat my a Dish CSR that upgrading to one Hopper and one Joey from my 722 would require a credit check and a year long contract. Is there a way to just simply upgrade without the commitment?

Using a hard drive enclosure with a ViP 722

I have a 722 and the external hard drive I currently was using has failed. Can I buy an internal hard drive, put it in a USB 2.0 3.5" hard drive enclosure (that has its own power supply) and use that as an external hard drive with my DVR?

Moving to Albuquerque, NM in December... moving questions!

Hello all! In December, I'm moving to Albuquerque! Got some questions: 1. Does Dish need to come out to my house before I move to do anything, and is there anything important I should know? 2. What's this "Get a free upgrade to a new DVR" thing they're advertising on their website? --...

10/11 KOLN/KGIN and 8 KLKN are just a yellow slate

Two local channels in the Lincoln NE market, 10 KOLN/KGIN and 8 KLKN are all yellow. No Audio, No video. Both on SD and HD. Both are off of the 110° West satellite, spotbeam 27. Only these two channels, other channels work fine. .

VIP 722 TV2 picture quality gets worse over time

I had the TV2 Modulator setup since Jan 2011 when I got Dish service on Channel 60 Air. Around September, it got very fuzzy, but not exactly "snowy", just fuzzier. I changed the modulator to channel 73 Cable and that fixed it, and I was back to a clear picture. Well tonight, the same thing...

KFXL Lincoln, NE- picture looks too upconverted.

KFXL is Lincoln, NE's local Fox station. The SD channel looks fine, but the HD channel, even with Fox's own HD content, looks very grainy and up-converted, even if the show (let's say House for instance) is supposed to be in HD. Every thing on the HD KFXL feed has two small blinking black lines...

How is local programming delivered to Dish's uplink center?

Are most local channels delivered to Dish's Uplink center (either Cheyenne WY or Gilbert AZ) by the local station's own satellite's, and if not, how else would they get there?

External Hard Drive on my 722: Doesn't use an external power supply.

My External Hard drive on my 722 is powered by USB. I saw on the dish website, that it has to have an external power supply. Seemed the receiver picked it up, and is using it just fine, so what's the big deal if it's USB powered?

I'll be charged $25 for taking off the Protection Plan, within the first 5 months of having it?

I have the Protection Plan currently, but am thinking of canceling it. A Dish CSR said if I added it again, I wouldn't be able to cancel it without a $25 charge, unless I cancel it after 5 months of having it...I thought it was within 30 days... and since my receiver is leased (even though I'm...

Once I upgrade programming, do I reboot my DVR?

Here's an easy one. If I upgrade from AT120 to AT120+ (mostly for the big ten network) and drop the protection plan (this ends up being cheaper than AT120 with the protection plan), do I reboot my DVR, run a check switch, or do the channels just appear out of thin air? :)

DirecTV and Time Warner both broadcast local PBS sub-channels. Why doesn't Dish?

As far as I know, DirecTV carries almost all local channels that subscribers to Time Warner get can here. (The Lincoln-Kearney Nebraska DMA, which is one hell of an odd DMA) This means the local CBS (KOLN/KGIN), ABC (KLKN out of Lincoln and KHGI out of Hastings), NBC, CW (KXVO out of Omaha), and...

Why is ESPN now letter-boxed all the time?!

I liked it when ESPN, ESPNU, and ESPNEWS were in a 4:3 format. BUT, recently they've been in a 16:9 format, squished to a 4:3 format on my TV-2. Why on earth would they do this?

Why doesn't the Dallas vs Miami game show up on the schedule for Dish?

On ESPN's website, it says that the Dallas at Miami game is on ABC at 8PM Eastern, (which would be 8PM Central for me), but on Dish Remote Access it doesn't show up! I''m going to be gone for the next week and wanted to record it. See screenshots to see what I'm talking about.

When getting a debit card (and a checking account) does it matter what bank you use?

I'm opening a checking account for use with Direct Deposit with my job. The big banks in my area are Wells Fargo, and U.S Bank. Then you get into the smaller banks. All are FDIC insured, however is there a benefit or drawback to using one bank over another, for example Wells Fargo, or U.S Bank...

I set HBO and Showtime to auto-remove. But I'll still be charged for them?

Why, when my three free months of HBO and Showtime cancel themselves on the 14th of April, Dish is still charging me 24.00 for something I will not be able to use? Instead of my bill being $39 as usual, it went up to $63.53 for this month. Doesn't sound right to me. Can somebody clarify this?

Well, that "Networks:0" bug is back... only not as often.

On my 722, When hitting DVR>TV Shows>Browse by Network I get "Networks:0", and a few seconds later, the receiver reboots. Any major software updates coming soon? (Especially to upgrade the dated 722 UI?)

Anything? The 922 sets the new standard for Dish receiver UI's, but I've always thought the 722 is in need of some love too!

HDMI for Video, RCA cables (red, white) for audio

Whenever I used HDMI for video AND audio, and outputted it from the TV to a audio receiver, the HD channels were always quieter than the SD channels. I got to thinking, would the sound be better if I just used RCA cables from the DVR and Blu-Ray player directly to the receiver, and just using...
