Offset Ku LNBF on prime focus BUD

First off, I know this is not ideal. But money being what it is, it's what I want information on and experiences with. I haven't used my 1 meter Ku dish in I don't know how long. My Azbox refuses to drive it with usals. The dish is in the way of me mowing my lawn against the house because...

    50th Anniversary of Telstar 1

I hadn't seen anybody post about this so I thought I should. On July 10, 1962, Telstar 1 was launched. Some background information can be found here: Telstar satellite's legacy, 50 years on - Technology & Science - CBC News

    Actuator jams with use?

I have a Von Weiss 24" actuator on my 10.5' BUD. Before putting up this beast I made sure that the threads on the jack were clean and well lubricated. I run this jack with a G-Box 3000. I've noticed that the more I drive the dish around, the more I get an E-2. I can go 15-20 degrees across...

BUD rocking back and forth on pivot in wind normal?

My new big 10 footer (and the smaller one I had) all rocked back and forth in the wind (40mph and up) on it's pivot on the mount. Just to be clear I'm not talking about the pole flexing, and there wasn't any slack in the actuator. Both the old 7.5 and the 10 footer I just got put up will rock...

Got my big big 10.5' BUD up! Long process though

I've spent the last few days getting this dish in the ground up in the air! Actually, I started months ago by painting the sections and getting all brand new grade 8 bolts. Because of the size of the dish and size of the pole (sched 80 4.5" OD 17' tall) I wanted I got a guy with an excavator...

    Getting accurate dish diameter

To calculate dish diameter, do I take the measurement from the outside to outside of the rim of the dish or the inside edge where the parabola starts? In the photo, would I measure from the top edge of the rim or the inside edge? The outside rim of the dish does not form part of the parabola...

    Polarotor or lnbf?

I'm hoping to put up my 12 footer in the next few weeks to replace my 7.5. The 12 came with a Polarotator and feed. I have an lnbf on the 7.5. I've read again and again that you can't beat the former, not that the latter doesn't work well. I've got a gbox to drive the existing dish that I...

    Pole/hole overkill

I'm researching what I need to do to get my 12' bud in the air and I want it done right. I've been studying info over at geo-orbit.org and it seems like I may very well be over-building things following the information there. For LOS I need the mount 10' to 12' in the air. Geo-orbit suggests...

Any ideas what the specs on this dish are?

This is the BUD I picked up a few weeks ago. I happened across a label on it that read "Canadian Satellite Antenna Systems" of Peterborough, Ontario. It's 12'. Does anybody here know of any info/specs on this dish? Google turned up nothing.

Line of sight issue - house in the way

I want to set up the "new" 12' monster I picked up but the only place the wife will let me put it is behind the house. Fine. My 7.5 is there now but I do have LOS issues with it. I want to plant the big one out back to keep her happy. The house is in the way and the dish is big and heavy so...

    Recover BUD from 20' pole?

Got a line on a 12' BUD that is on a 20' pole, making the dump position 14' off the ground. Any thoughts on getting this down without getting hurt?

When working on a dish with a ladder....

Make sure that your ladder has all of it's feet on the ground. And try to work on ladders in daylight no matter how desperate you are to tweak. Was out tweaking my BUD because its skew was off. But it's 9' in the air and the 6' step ladder went left and I went to the right, falling about 5'...

Run away motor with 4110 firmware

Anyone else using 4110 firmware notice their Azbox sending their motor off in one direction or another that you have to stop manually? Since updating, occasionally my box will do this. It's happened to me four or five times now. Last night my bud flopped when this happened. My actuator had...

DG-380 motor arm position at true south

Am I ass/u/me/ing correctly a DG-380 motor is aimed at true south the marker on the arm should be pointed at 0 on the scale? I've just noticed that mine doesn't. Using USALS to drive the motor to true south the arm is pointed at about 15, on the west side of south.

Best dish position to survive high winds

I've got hurricane Bill coming my way, Cat 1. Winds start off north-east, and over time swing around across the south and on to north-west. The dish is 7.5 foot mesh. The pole is 3" diameter, 1/4" aluminum wall, cement filled. The pole is 7' out of the ground, 40" in ground. Should I...

    Azbox firmware recommendations

My new AzBox Elite is on it's way to my mailbox! And I'm not one to wait around on something like the mailman before I start to get things rolling. To all you AzBox people out there, is there a particular firmware version you would recommend, at this time? Or a list of firmwares in...

How to setup and wire actuator

I've got a Van Weiss V76-8 actuator. I know which terminals are M1/M2 as it has heavy gauge wire attached and I can make it move after getting it unseized. The reed switch has an orange and brown wire currently attached. What terminals would those connect to on my analog receiver? I know one...

Finally I'm gettin' the BUD installed

I spent eight hours to get one pole pole in the ground because of one lousy rock. But it's gonna be worth it. Going to give that cement a bit to set up and then up goes all 90 inches of dish! :D

First time BUD setup with no true south sat

I'm hoping to get my BUD set up this weekend, finally. It's used and the elevation and declination angles should be fine where the dish has been moved less than 40 miles. I know where true south is because I've got my ku motorized dish set up fine by using USALS and driving it to my nearest...

This a decent LNB or get another one?

The BUD that I'm soon to install came with a CalAmp 140129 LNB, labeled as having a gain of 65db and noise temp of 25k, and voltage controlled polarity. Would this be considered a decent LNB? It is fuctional. Also, it has a mark on it specifying "Polar Axis". Should this be pointed at 9 or...

    Adjust declination when moving dish

The BUD I picked up a while ago was moved from about 40 miles north of where I am. It was working when it was last used. Should I need/bother to adjust the declination or just leave it as it is?

How to remove broken wire from female F connector

I've been trying to figure out what's been going on with my dish for the last week or so. Good signal quality but still getting pixelation and complete signal drop-outs. Then it just died completely but my motor still moves fine. After tracing the wiring with my Birdog and getting the same...

Possible to put a dish too close to the ground?

Outside of physical restrictions (such as the dish itself hitting the ground) might one experience ground noise by putting a Ku dish too close to the ground? I've got my motorized low enough that it's within about 4" off the ground when it's looking at G27 129W. Clear line of sight to...

    Usb Qbox II DVB-S2

Other thread was closed due to hack talk. To meinename, the Qbox manufacturer says that the windows drivers are BDA. EDIT: my mistake. The site doesn't say it. But I downloaded the driver and looked at the .inf file in it, and it's described as a BDA device in there.
