In the last day or two I no longer to type in a 5 digit channel number such as a regional sports network e.g. 41221. Instead the HWS goes to the nearest channel to 4122. This also happens on my Joey. Any help would be appreciated.

Possible New DirecTV Customer with Questions

I'm looking to switch my Mom over from Dish to DirecTV because the DirecTV programming packages fit her needs better. I do have a few questions about receivers. She doesn't need or want a DVR but she has two HD TVs. She doesn't need to watch two different programs on each TV at the same time...

E-16 to be launched by Sea Launch?

Came across this article in Space News. It appears that Dish will be using Sea Launch for launch services in the next few years so perhaps E-16 will ride on a Zenit-3SL rocket. Russias Energia To Own 95 Percent of New Sea Launch | SpaceNews.com

Dish Requests 148 W Suspension of Operations

Dish has applied to the FCC to suspend operations at 148 W. Not suprising because of the E-5 propellant issue but Dish also noted that it wants to move E-8 to 148 W in 2011 after QuetzSat-1 is launched to 77W in August of 2011. I know this is almost two years from now but this also indicates...

Error Correction and Useable Bandwidth Per TP

As has been posted in various threads, the next two satellites for Dish, AMC-14 and E-11 will have the capability to provide higher powered signals. It has been speculated in various posts that this will allow Dish to reduce the error correction resulting in an increase in the useable bandwidth...

FCC Approves Dish Acquisition of Sky Angel TPs at 61.5 W

Post title says it all. Looks like Dish will have room for more HD. Now they just need to replace E-3. Perhaps it will be worth Dish moving E-6 from 110 to there at least temporarily. Here is the FCC website address: http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/servlet/ib....ent_key=595860

FCC Approves Partial Use of E-10 at 110 W

The FCC has approved the partial use of the E-10 satellite at 110 W. The FCC has deferred approval for use of the 3 TP frequencies from E-10 that could cause interference with the DirecTV satellite i.e., 27, 29 and 31. This could be a big problem for Dish's plans because there are at least 7...

    E-10 Info - 49 Spotbeams

Dish has filed with the FCC an application to slightly modify the design of E-10. I have not had a chance to read all the documents associated with this filing but at initial glance E-10 will have 49 downlink Spots. If I am interpreting the data properly it appears that E-10 will use 10 TP...

Over-rated Jeter Causes Injury to Giambi

The vastly defensively over-rated Derek Jeter's wild throw on a routine double play causes Jason Giambi to re-injury his back. I hope this hurts the Yankee's playoff chances and maybe some folks eyes will be opened and the Pretty Faced Jeter's defensive skills finally will be fairly judged. I...

    AMC-15 Now at 105 W

Yes, AMC-15 is finally at 105 W according to LyngSat. I look forward to folks posting their new signal strength numbers in the next few days. It would also be interesting to see how many channels Dish loads on each TP since these are wide frequency band TPs and what error correction rate they use.

FCC Public Notice on Comments to Rainbow-1 Sale

The FCC released a Public Notice today 2/25, seeking comment on the sale of Rainbow-1 satellite and licenses to Dish (Echostar). It looks like the comment cycle ends on April 18th. My guess would be the FCC would make a ruling on this within 90 days which would put it no later than July 18th...

Dish Seeks to Move Echostar-5 to 129 W

Dish has filed an application with the FCC to move Echostar-5 (E-5) to 129 W, a Canadian DBS slot. E-5 is currently at 119 W but not being used for programming. It appears that Dish has had an agreement for this move in place since May 14, 2004 with Ciel, a Canadian satellite company. Ciel has...

    Rainbow-1 Spotbeam TP Capability

Questions about the capabilities of the Rainbow-1 (R-1) satellite have been raised especially related to spotbeam transponder (TP) useage. It has been posted elsewhere that R-1 has as many as 130 TPs but the question is how many can be used at one time specifically in spotbeam mode. I believe...

Does Voom Resuscitation Cinch FCC Approval for Dish?

With the news that Voom apparently will stay in business assure that Dish will gain FCC approval of their acquisition of Voom's DBS frequencies at 61.5 W?
