    Pink Screen in Scranton DMA

Didn't check this morning, but both channels went dark at 2300 last night on D*. Looked like it happened right as they were switching from national programming to the late news, but that might be coincidence. Like I said, I didn't check to see if they were back since last night.

ECHOSTAR 11 RESTRICTED BY FCC !!

The company appears to be based out of the Netherlands from what I can tell in the filings. The only other thing that I could find about them is that they seem to claim to have invented or are associated with the inventor of spotbeams. (WO/2007/047159) SATELLITES AND SIGNAL DISTRIBUTION...

For those who would like to Track AMC14

Additional tracking info for AMC-14 can be found here. If you take the time to set it up with your position, it will tell you when the bird might be overhead.

Using the 129 in northest Pa

Yeah, I'm at 560 ft, and the Bald Eagle ridge to my south peaks around 1800 ft. I'm fairly tight against the mountain, so it's a wonder that I can even see 119 at 26.5 degrees. Now, if I could get on top of the mountain I bet I could hit 148 at 5.9 degrees. :eureka

Using the 129 in northest Pa

At 18.2 degrees, I can forget about trees - I'm hitting mountains at that point!

    Dish just called...

Show me one person who can actually receive all 22 at a single location. I call male bovine fecal matter on this statement. Barrett Jackson on Speed in January was most definitely in HD.

    Dish just called...

Tried that - got much backpedaling. Basically, the answer was that she couldn't name them, but they're there, and if I don't agree then I'm wrong. I thought the customer was always right - it's bad practice to tell the customer that "you're wrong, sir" and then not be able to back it up. If I...

    Dish just called...

Well, this is actually not the first time they called, but it is the first time they've blatently came out and made the statements I described. I've also seen the number on the caller ID a bunch of times (20+) that I haven't answered. I just happened to answer by mistake today.

    Dish just called...

About a month ago, I switched from E* to D*, with the reason being HD content (yeah, yeah, grass greener, I know). Anyhow, I just got a call from E* wondering why I left, so I told the lady exactly why. She then proceeded to tell me that "DISH is the leader in HD" and offers over 70 channels...

SatelliteGuys.US DishNetwork Uplink Activity Discussion - Week Ending 12/29/2007

I've been thinking about why SciFi and USA HD might be running slates. When the channels didn't launch at the time Scott predicted, the supposed reason was technical problems. I'm starting to wonder if that might not really be the case. If I had to guess, I'd say that the carriage...

The Dish Network Universe will be paradise after CES

Did anyone catch what they're calling the birds at 85 and 105? There's 2 listed for 85, one of them shows as ViPTV 85, and the other is Echostar XVI as in Echostar 16. At 105 it shows Echostar XV or Echostar 15. What gives?

Is Sci-Fi HD and USA HD going to happen?

Technically, they're not really uplinked, or at least it doesn't look that way. There are entries in the tables bearing the names SCIFI and USA in the HD channel range that show as MPEG4 HD. However, both channels are running an identical constant bitrate indicative of a slate. There's...

    Why no PBS in HD?

Amen to that! I'd rather have a promise (or a hint, or anything at this point) than the same rhetoric that we're receiving that DISH is the leader in HD. C'mon E*, get your heads out of the sand (or wherever else you may have them) and at least make a statement. If you're just going to...

    Fox News Sues Echostar

Unfortunately, if this results in any programming being pulled, I'd bet that it's not just Fox News that would go. I'd think it would be all of the News Corp. channels (and that's quite a few channels).

I guess so. I don't know why I thought it was approved - brain fart.

    Fox News Sues Echostar

Not anymore... Liberty media did some sort of share-swapping deal and now controls the shares that News Corp. used to control.

    Fox News Sues Echostar

Is it? Some could use the logic that the first tier is the most widely distributed because it's included in its entirety in the second tier and beyond.

This will be a fun one to watch Charlie try to wiggle himself out of. Somehow I don't think the standard "They sued us, let's buy them" approach that everyone's been calling for with the TIVO case will work for this one. It says it was a 1998 contract - strange that it's taken almost 10 years...

Charlie Chat Caps and Bytes 12-10-07

Don't know about that. for me in central PA, the elevation angle is 18 degrees. In Boston, it's less than 15. In parts of Maine, it's barely 13 degrees. In any case, those are pretty low - at 18 degrees I can forget about trees since I'm shooting at the side of a mountain!

True, but E* hasn't added anything at 61.5, nor have we heard any plans to do so. E3 has been there for ages, and E12/R1 was there when E* acquired the assets of Rainbow DBS. Since 129 isn't truly CONUS, and space was available at 61.5 that could server those who can't see 129, why not use it...

    Dual HD Tuner Receiver?

I'd personally like to see a receiver with an HDMI output for each tuner, or even better, one with a standard HDMI out for TV1 and a built in balun for HDMI over CAT5e for the second (or more) tuner. E* could then sell the far-end balun to go with it. Unless the installer was going to use...

    Sci-Fi HD...when can we watch?

If you previously had problems receiving D*, and you know it resulted from line-of-sight problems and not equipment malfunction or installation problems, you're probably not going to do any better. D* is now using Ka band satellites for much of their HD content, which have a lower tolerance for...

    Sci-Fi HD...when can we watch?

Well, if they didn't actually uplink content and merely put the entries in the tables, why not? Changing the tables shouldn't cost anything. Now I really don't believe that this is the case, but it's not that crazy of an idea.
