Are sun outages a thing of the past?

Longitude does not really matters, main is Longitude. So, Sun-outage effect in Latvia is more or less same as people in Canada have. Sun-outage timing in Florida, of course, takes place in different time, but not in May, that is for sure.

Are sun outages a thing of the past?

In the past I made some experiments during sun-outage periods. Results of one of them represented on the picture. You can clearly see influence of the outage on different satellites. It was done on base of 1.2m dish. On some satellites it was real drop of the signal till total 0, on some...

Are sun outages a thing of the past?

No, sun outages are still in place twice per year and do some effect on sat-system performance. Perhaps you did not sit in front of the TV screen at the proper time of the day. Explore THIS site to find out exact date, time and satellite position when sun outage happens at your location.

please help advise me how to wire a new home for satellite

For the new house it is better to have as many cables installed as possible. I just took a picture of cable run to my balcony, because of them I can not fully shut the door. Apartment is not mine, so can not make holes in the wall. :coco

    Balcony mounting options

There is exactly the same balcony other side of the house, so if somebody wants to have "coffin nail" or just relax, he/she can go there. :shh But, even on this balcony is some place left (from where picture was taken). Clamps, I added just in case, but, in reality, nothing is moving there and...

    Balcony mounting options

I did installation on my balcony (actually inside the balcony) on self-made non-penetrating wooden platform. Of course, balcony defers from another balcony and individual solutions should be found.

Wireless bridge on a Joey, will it work?

There are very cheap routers on the market which support bridging. For example TP-Link TL-WR841N, costs less than 20 $. I have installed couple of then (one for me and another one for friend of mine), they work great and have much more possibilities than USB wifi adapter.

    Keeping snow off dish

Could you show some picture with heater on surface of the dish. Just wondering. I have 3 dishes with heaters, and all of them have them back-mounted. There are also rain/snow sensor, which suppose to turn on heat automatically when needed.

    Keeping snow off dish

If instructions say that than they are wrong. Such a heater, installed on the "face" of dish will block signal. All heaters have to be mounted on back side of dish; heating dish and melting snow.

    Keeping snow off dish

There are lots of de-icing gadgets on the market. For example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-Shot-Satellite-Dish-Heater-24-30-Dishes-Slimline-Exede-Hughesnet-Wildblue-/271101786294?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f1eecf8b6 Of course, depends what kind of dish should be de-iced.
