Help with streaming movies from Hopper......

VPN To use a VPN you have to sign up and establish an account with a VPN provider. I use StrongVPN and highly recommend them. I have used HMA and don't recommend them. They have servers in a number of different cities in nineteen countries worldwide. I pay $85 per year for an OpenVPN...

To get around this he will need to run a VPN on his PC. He will need to connect using a VPN server on the west coast. Using a VPN given the distance and processor overhead will speed by 10 - 40%. Speed loss will be even worse if he tries to run VPN on router.

    Hopper Voltage Issue

Just another couple of pieces of electrical trivia. Most everyone knows that AC power fluctuates over the sine wave. The volts you see on your meter is a derived number supposed to be equivalent of 120 volts DC. In fact it is approximately 170 volts at the peak. Most surge protectors don't...

    Voltage on fittings?

The above gadgets are good and if you see problems you still may want to use a multimeter. When you test the voltage hot to neutral then hot to ground you want the readings to be approximately equal. If you have metallic conduits, which were used to provide the ground, then over time rust...

New Dish Subscriber; Only 3 Tuners On The Hopper?

If you most always are watching recorded shows then you are not using tuners. You could be watching two or three pre recorded shows and still have three tuners available for recording additional programming.

    Dish Anywhere Streaming Speed

Probably that is as fast that they are going to send it to you. Anything above 5 Mbps should give you good to excellent HD pictures as long as the connection is steady and the latency doesn't vary significantly. If they sent you the video at 50 Mbps they would not have the bandwidth to serve...

    VIP211 hangs

To determine if the EHD is causing the problem unplug the 211, disconnect the USB cable to the EHD and power down the EHD. Plug in the receiver and it will convert itself back to being just a plain 211. Use it for a day or two. If no problems then you know it is the EHD. If you still have...

Will dish come out with a cloud dvr like comcast is?

Last fall when I was in Chicago Comcast has thousands of shows available in the VOD library including broadcast network shows. What they had to do with the contents owner/ programmer is negotiate for the rights (pay money ) so that a show or series would be available as VOD. Much of the...

    Dish Police back in action.

I don't know if Dish has the capabilities or wants the capabilities but it is possible. Reading what the NSA and Chinese have been doing there are some powerful exploits available to gather information. In the case of Aereo when I clicked on the button to sign up for a free trial of their...

    Dish Police back in action.

If your network has WiFi capabilities either as part of the router or as a wireless AP connected to your network, or perhaps just a device connected to your network such as a smartphone with WiFi capabilities, all someone has to do is force your wireless radio(s) do do a scan and listen for...

    Dish Police back in action.

You don't necessarily need GPS in a device to determine its location. If a device has WiFi or is connected to a network that has WiFi its location can be determined within a few hundred feet by scanning what WiFi network SSIDs are nearby. (Thank you Google, NSA, et al.) Aereo uses this WiFi...

DISH's response to the Co fires vs Direct's

Most homeowner policies include coverage for property owned by others. If you rent a rug shampooer and it was stolen or burned up in a fire your insurance would cover it. There are usually limits on the coverage so don't borrow a Rembrandt from the local museum without checking your...

    Dish wall mount

Cut a piece of plywood long enough to span the two studs. Since it is above fireplace you might want to go entire width of wall so it looks OK. Plywood needs to be a few inches wider than mount. Bevel cut and sand edges of plywood so it doesn't just look like a hunk of wood you stuck on the...

Ideas to get sling content from my home DVR to my TV in my apartment

Perhaps I missed something, but why don't you buy the video cable for your Ipad? Plug it into the Ipad and run an HDMI cable to an input on your TV. I have used this setup to watch my stand alone SlingBox, Netflix, USTVNow. Ipad has plenty of processing power and built in 3G and WiFi. Your...

Hopper Internet Connector disrupts Joeys Moca connections
