Second Hand Osprey Box / DirecTV Stream

Yeah, the used ones on EBay work fine, I’ve got 2 of them. Plug in, and it takes about an hour to download stuff from them, all stepped through with on screen prompts.

    Leaving Directv for Directv stream

Basic Hulu is quite different from their Live streaming service in what it will allow.
  3. lparsons21

    Leaving Directv for Directv stream

I think only Hulu+Live doesn’t allow any out of home streaming on actual streaming boxes.

    Leaving Directv for Directv stream

No, the number of simultaneous streams has been stated in this thread a few times, Vazhog is incorrect.

    Leaving Directv for Directv stream

What a difference a day makes. Today no casting of recordings

    Leaving Directv for Directv stream

Thanks, back to D*Stream. I currently have it with Ultimate subscription level. IMO, it is overpriced, but I want FS2, & Golf and that’s the only level that has those channels as well as some other lesser cared about channels. As with cable/sat and other live streamers it is always a trade off...

    Leaving Directv for Directv stream

Yeah, me too. I don’t use the Roku much anymore, but got DD5.1 or better on lots of apps. BTW, for those that have seen other posts by me, you may have noticed that they were usually more wordy than recently. That’s because I recently had a stroke and it has made many mundane things very...

    Leaving Directv for Directv stream

Yes it does for most channels.

    Leaving Directv for Directv stream

I just found out today that D*Stream app on ipad/iphone supports Chromecast and AirPlay. Used to do Chromecast only for a live channel, now does it with recordings too. I tested casting to my Chromecast w/GoogleTV and it worked fine though audio was only stereo.

    Leaving Directv for Directv stream

Yeah, and better than some others about it. Hulu+Live doesn’t allow any out of home.
  11. lparsons21

    Leaving Directv for Directv stream

Yes. You would be using 2 total streams
  12. lparsons21

    Leaving Directv for Directv stream

Since almost everyone has internet anyway, the only legitimate way to calculate is if you need to change to a different tier to account for data caps or speed needs. In my case that is $20/month over what I paid before I switched to all streaming. In reality, the cost for live streaming a...

    Leaving Directv for Directv stream

It is all part of the subscription cost. BTW, D*Stream is literally as close to traditional as you can get via streaming. The UI is nearly identical and the channels offered are almost the same. But it does come at a premium.

20 in your home network, 3 outside of home..

    Bally’s Sports

While $$ are always a concern, it isn’t necessarily the driving factor. For about the same cost I could get all those with Mediacom cable but would lose the superb PQ I get with streaming and DirecTV satellite would be a bit more. And you don’t have to try to make the absurd comment about the...

    Bally’s Sports

I don’t disagree with that at all, for those that want/need all those sports. I’m not one of them.
  17. lparsons21

    Bally’s Sports

Sports is the gaping hole with streaming. I get all the sports I want with an antenna and OTA DVR. As to what to watch on the various VOD streamers. Tons of stuff, comedies, drama, sci-fi, practically all genres of shows. And I very much disagree with your ‘made for TV’ movie crap. Sure some...

    Bally’s Sports

I like good content which is sparse on traditional live tv these days. And you really ought to read up on the financials of the free w/ads streamers, seems they are doing quite well. But I wasn’t thinking about them when I made my post. I was thinking more about the pay VOD services. Plenty of...

    Bally’s Sports

Since the same content is available in other ways and at less cost to the customer, the price you pay is to make it more convenient. So it is a big no from me for ‘traditional’ in this case.
  20. lparsons21

    Bally’s Sports

Yep, and it is the ‘traditional’ methods that are losing customers seemingly every day. I currently have a YTTV sub that is expiring soon. Over the month I’ve had it I’ve watched almost nothing on it since the same shows are on one or the other on demand service in at least as good PQ and in all...

AT&T loses 620,000 video subs in Q1 as DirecTV deal moves ahead

I do watch things that I actually pay attention to, unfortunately most of those are not on live streaming or are also available with other apps. For instance lots of broadcast stuff is on Hulu along with originals and some cable stuff, same for Paramount+ and Peacock with no few very interesting...

AT&T loses 620,000 video subs in Q1 as DirecTV deal moves ahead

And then, after looking at the entire guide you notice there’s nothing you either haven’t seen or is so utterly a waste of time to watch that you then go off to one of the on demand services with actual original shows worth watching. :)

AT&T loses 620,000 video subs in Q1 as DirecTV deal moves ahead

I haven’t quite got myself to do that as much as I probably should. Since I get OTA via antenna quite well and have a DVR for that, I need to streamline the rest a whole lot better. As it sits now the most expensive part of my streaming subscriptions is the live streamer and it is the least watched.
