The “upgrade” process and perceived differences from 10 to 11 are negligible. Just as aggravating.

    Mesh Router Recommendation

I just installed the Amazon EERO 6+ three pack. Only using two. Replaced the Verizon CR1000A FiOS cable modem router, which in turn replaced the previous FiOS unit with a TP-Link router set up as a WAP. I no longer need to pick a different SSID as I move about the house. Mesh, WIRED mesh, is...

    Setting up an access point

Nice. But not all “routers” have external antenna jacks. For instance, the CR1000A cable modem / router does not. Used by Verizon FiOS and I believe a few others.

    Setting up an access point

Yes. Any old router with DHCP disabled should work just fine. But it won’t be a mesh, you’ll have different SSIDs. NBD.

BINGO! Surely we have learned the word “inevitability.” I use a Windows PC so little these days. But, still needed. My shift to Mint stalled. MS is driving off their non business customers.

    Windows 11

I set up a mint for a job that turned out to be impossible. I’d guess it’s been two years since I’ve booted it. But with retirement, and many other pressures, I haven’t gone back. I have a minimally used W11, and at least two W PCs, and 2-3 old laptops not in use. Times change.

I can’t duplicate a data CD under W11. Instructions that I Googled are wrong, even on the MS website. Have only one R/W DVD drive on my unit. Sigh.

    Windows 11

The other day, after I made one change to the BIOS, the PC offered to install W11. I thought I’d have to make an additional BIOS change. Anyway, I let it install. My old version of Office seems to be working fine under W11.

Keeping an eye out for a sales critter that may be coming after you? Reminds me years ago when I heard a BB sales critter tell customers that they’d have to recharge their plasma TV every few years. I did so want to cut them from the herd and edumicate them. SWMBO dragged me outta there first.

    Windows 11

Agreed. And yes, I know there are two things in bios to adjust. DK remember other one. But it will be months before I can deal with this. Honeydew list.

Now I know who to go to if I have any problems! :D I’ve learned that W11 does not support Office 2007 or 2003. But there may be an upgrade path to Office 2021.

I have never known Geek Squad employees to be competent. I was pushed to give them a try. So I set up a problematic PC and let them have at it. They failed.

Sigh. More ungood W11 news. I had MicroCenter do some work on my PC a couple years ago. Told them to make sure it was ready for W11. Didn’t find out until months later that they did not set it up for W11. I figured the heck with it, no reason to go W11. Now that option is closing. Of course...

    1980s Computer Throwback

I don’t even remember the brand of the minicomputer I controlled at NAF Wash DC. But I still remember how I knew how to swap out that HDD for one with MANY times the capacity, and maybe a tenth the size. It would have sped up our work significantly. But figured I couldn’t get away with it...
