new voom message on the screen now

So after 6 months you can get the new sub deals? I moved last June and had my account on hold. Then in Sept I tried to get my dishmover scheduled, once I got into my house. After 5 cancelled installs over 2 months I told E* to stick it. I'm right at the 6 month mark now. I'm kind of...

    Dolan Sued by Investors

Look, I do understand the points that others here are trying to make. I also want Voom to succeed, and believe it best if it's sold off. And I most certainly understand that there are lots of frivolous lawsuits filed that don't have merit or by ambulance chasers. The point I am arguing is...

    Dolan Sued by Investors

I totally understand that Charles Dolan the biggest voting stockholder. The suit won't be about that. The suit will be about his negligence to his fiduciary duty to maximize shareholder value as an officer of the company and that he defied a sitting board and took actions that he was directed...

    Dolan Sued by Investors

The whole point is that by law all shareholders have rights, and that board members and officers of public companies have certain responsibilities. What the shareholders will do is show that their rights were violated by negligent actions of officers/board members of the company. Chucks recent...

    Dolan Sued by Investors

Actually it's not ridiculous. The primary responsibility of the officers of a company and the board of directors is to the shareholders. The company has a responsibility to maximize the value of the shares. Even for minority shareholders. Thats why there are so many laws and regulations...

Flash!!!! There will be no official statement on Monday

Well, that's probably not totally correct. They probably already assumed revenue from existing customers, plus some rate of anticipated growth, and still came up with that loss. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if the actual break-even point was significantly higher. Also, D* probably did...

IB 05-72 Rainbow1 at the FCC

Actually, as a (recently) former E* customer, I can assure that most won't. E* has the majority of programming at 110 and 119 which can be received with a single dish. Most people don't want a second dish pointing off in a totally different direction. E* needs solutions which can be attained...

Letter from Inverstors to Chuck: (Voom/Echostar merge?)

My fear is that on April 1, the April Fool's Day joke will be on us. But we can hope that it's on the trolls. :neener Go Voom!

Is Mr Dolan Sr. trying to pull a fast one?

I think the $375M 4th quarter loss included some one time costs or write-offs. My guess is that the actual recurring expenses would be closer to the $75M loss posted from 3rd quarter. Just my two cents, which on occasion turns out to be all it's worth. :p Fortunately that's not usually...

Letter from Inverstors to Chuck: (Voom/Echostar merge?)

I don't think this is an attempt to merge Voom with Echostar. I believe it's an attempt for Dolan to buy Rainbow1 without CVC incurring penalties for defaulting on the definitive agreement, or an attempt to lease Rainbow1 from E* for a period of time to give Voom significantly more time to...

Letter from Inverstors to Chuck: (Voom/Echostar merge?)

Quote: ...with EchoStar’s agreement, Rainbow-1 could be brought together with the VOOM business... Mike, actually to me this phrase sounds exactly like a satellite lease back or transferring the sale to Voom LLC. It doen't have the sound of a programming arrangement to me. But hey...

Letter from Inverstors to Chuck: (Voom/Echostar merge?)

Bruce, if his goal is really the distribution of the Voom21 channels then that tactic may work. It just seems like speculation (like what else isn't right now)based on the majority of what I've seen. But it certainly seems like a good back up plan if nothing else. And there has been a lot of...

Letter from Inverstors to Chuck: (Voom/Echostar merge?)

Maybe, but this sounds like sure way to sink Voom as a stand-alone DBS which appears to be Charles Dolan's goal. Not sure if he'd consider going that route or not. To me, it doesn't sound like a good plan for long-term survival.

Letter from Inverstors to Chuck: (Voom/Echostar merge?)

I doubt E* will invest actual $$$ in Voom, but they may negotiate for a share of the business, in addition to some payment, for Voom LLC to lease Rainbow1. E* didn't sound like they had concrete plans/timeline for use of Rainbow1, so maybe they will be willing to lease it for a year or two.

Letter from Inverstors to Chuck: (Voom/Echostar merge?)

What this says to me is that Charles Dolan believes that he needs Rainbow1 to continue operating Voom (Voom HD LLC). For some reason he believes it isn't feasible to try to shift everything to Rainbow2, or rely entirely to Rainbow2. Therefore he either needs to negotiate with Echostar to...

"And if you win an Oscar?" You Get VOOM!

I think all the "Oscar" installs are set for April 1, 2005.... :haha Appropriate in light of everything, don't you think? :p

    What To Do Now?

I will stay to the end as long as Voom keeps the majority of the programming going. After that I will probably go to Comcast, but I will try to take my time and see if I can get a reasonable upgrade offer (I have their limited basic with Cable Modem). Dish or Direct would have to make an...

Some good/bad News (Depending how you want to take it)

Thanks for the update Sean. I'm not bailing until my screen goes dark, starts playing the same Public Service announcement on all channels, or until the previously mentioned HD News anchor actually does start singing. :p

Possible Liability CVC Faces In Light Of Actions Against VOOM - 03.01.2005

Yes. And I like Sean's post in another thread basically confirming that negotiations are continuing. So maybe there will be an offer that is accepted and all this will become a moot point!

Possible Liability CVC Faces In Light Of Actions Against VOOM - 03.01.2005

The issue that I read into the statement was that in addition to the 1.4B already lost, the offer stuck the shareholders at risk for additional losses in the future. If that is the case, it is valid to accept a known shutdown cost today versus an some potentially unknown future loss. Again...

Possible Liability CVC Faces In Light Of Actions Against VOOM - 03.01.2005

That's a very fine line to walk, especially without all the details of the offer and outstanding obligations/debts for Voom. Businesses shut down every day because they deemed an offer not good enough, even if it would have been a little more income or a little less loss. The board or officers...

Breaking News: Flash From Voom Website: VOOM ceasing Operation by end of March

I think this is the line in the sand. James is stating that he doesn't think Charles' offer is good enough, apparently it left too many obligations with CVC. (Maybe because Charles didn't have good enough financing in place.) The deadline passed, and so now he's taking steps to shut down...
