    ABC Affiliates on Ku-Band (1998)

Well even though Satcom K2 was an NBC bird as I've mentioned earlier, there were plenty of newsfeeds and SNG feeds on K2 as well. CONUS Communications also had two satellite transponders on there for satellite news gathering, special events and a daily news exchange among US TV stations and...

WB Affiliates on Ku-Band Satellite (1998)

Well Mitch Nedick finally got back to me and he told me that "News feeds were controlled at the station level and not at the network.", though only a handful of WB affiliates outside of the Tribune stations had news departments at the time like I mentioned earlier.

WAVE Louisville also showed a rebroadcast of its newscasts with subtitles on KET (which is a PBS station), which was being uplinked on GE1 Ku, transponder 6 (Same transponder as the Empire Sports Network): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R8Ki2Eaw2Y

WB Affiliates on Ku-Band Satellite (1998)

Based on a statement on Radio Discussions, "Most C-Band owners did not have a Ku-Band dish and these were not watched by many except for professionals and students in universities." The only Ku dishes that were sold to consumers back then was Primestar (GE2 Ku (W7)).

Several of the Tribune-owned WB stations also showed video stories from CNN which might further explain why they used CNN Newsource for their feeds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5h6OI2Kl7bs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMlW3xhbIpA

KMOL San Antonio (then owned by Chris-Craft) aired a local newsmagazine in lieu of a noon newscast (4 San Antonio Living).

    Primestar satellite back in 1997-99?

You could also find newsfeeds on Spacenet 4 Ku and Satcom K2 (Though it's an NBC sat) as well.

RE: NBC Affiliates on Ku-Band (1998)

KMOL San Antonio also simulcast it's newscasts on GSTAR 4, transponder 8 (R4-8) since it was a Chris-Craft station back then and carried a secondary affiliation with UPN.

    Primestar satellite back in 1997-99?

Sports feeds (MLB, NHL, NBA, NFL etc...) also showed up occasionally on Ku at the time (SBS6, T5 Ku).

So much of the Tribune-owned stations used CNN Newsource for their video feeds as well, CNN Newsource was on the same sat as the PBS feeds at the time (GE3 Ku (W8)).

Plus, the Ku side of Anik E2 (A2) carried StarChoice programming. ExpressVu was also on there as well, but you needed an ExpressVu dish in order to watch their programming (As they scrambled its channels). They moved to a DBS-only sat in 1999 (Nimiq 1).

WAWS also had a 6:30PM newscast produced for WTEV UPN47 (now CBS) as well.

WQTV-LP in Murray, KY (which branded itself as "Quad Cities TV" at time) was one of the several WB affiliates outside of the Tribune stations with a news division at the time (besides KPLR, KKYK-LP and WYLN). Telstar 5 (Ku-Band) before Sky Vista

Pardon me for reviving this dead thread, but by the way were there any NFL Backhauls on Ku-Band in 1998? (though NFL Sunday Ticket was DirecTV and C-Band only)

Also, this was around the time when FOX scrambled it's feeds for their primetime programming (Beverly Hills, 90210, Party of Five, The World's Funniest, The Simpsons, Melrose Place, Ally McBeal, King of the Hill, The X-Files, America's Most Wanted etc...).

Unlike most other FOX affiliates at the time, my local FOX station (KTTV 11) was the only one that didn't have any early evening newscasts (until September 2011 when "Studio 11 LA" debuted).
