    Ken pictures would be nice sounds like you have a non-pen (penetrating) mount that has a 3 inch pole a 8 ft dish would need a large non-pen mount usually these are 8X8 the smaller mounts are for smaller dishes but most weld shops should be able to fab up an adapter if thats the route...

    I wire brush mine and use pb blaster tapping like mentioned above . heat from torch like mentioned above works also afterwards i clean nut and threads with wire brush & after installing i paint them

    I would agree with the others finding a local dish probably for free is a great option.. also for ku if you like keeping it on a separate dish the old primestar dishes work great.... If you need a receiver to start with and play around with send me a PM i've got a couple older boxes that...

    although everyone has their own ideas, I would agree with Fat Air. If space isn't a problem, get a good ku system setup, look around your area for a 10ft dish ( i like mine separate anyway) and work from there.. Then you can sit/stand outside under the umbrella drinking a glass of sweet tea...

    I was trying to find those with interest when i started a PI thread back last year . i knew that you could set one up fairly easily (no i havent done it) and i knew the RS had a plug in modual that could be used to supply up to 48 volts on up to 6 channels ... just no one seemed...
