    Satellite Finders: Junk or Useful?

I use a Radio Shack satellite finder first, to get a meter swing, it's very helpful. The RS meters were made of metal and are sturdy. Then I use a handheld satellite receiver to optimize and see the actual FTA broadcast. The other inexpensive satellite meter is my Channel Master that I use for...

Are there any companies selling commercial grade Ku fiberglass dishes suitable for FTA these days like the Channel Master mentioned above?

    Telstar 12 Vantage from Miami

I don't have a dish pointed towards Telstar 15W at the moment but when I did it came in fine here in NJ using a 30 or 36 inch dish.

    Point-to-Point Satellite

The distance between you and your extended family would eliminate CB use. You might want to look into GMRS and see if there are networked repeaters in your area. myGMRS.com - GMRS Repeater Directory No point to point satellite service that I know of though.

    FTA Video

This young fellow, AntennaMan has lots of YouTube videos about OTA TV. Definitely knows his stuff. He took a slightly different path in his latest video on how to receive FTA satellite. I emailed him and invited him to see my setup as he's not that far away. Hope everyone is staying safe...

    Help selecting Right FTA Setup

I noticed that at least in my area, 97W has less channels than several years ago but there are still many to choose from. It wouldn't hurt to check all your cables and connections for wear and tear. Check your LNB and make sure you have the right skew, check to see that the mechanical parts of...

good signal strength no signal quality

In regards to your Ku dish setup, looks like you need to re-point your dish. Don't go by the signal intensity, adjust for the best signal quality.

good signal strength no signal quality

Sorry to hear of you troubles. If the only thing you did was a firmware update I'd suspect the update as the culprit. Check all your parameters such as LO (as per Titanium), satellite longitude, make sure your LNB is turned on in the software. Have you performed a blind scan to see if you...

    Intelsat extends life

Very impressive. Hopefully this will have a positive impact on the industry and slow the migration to Internet-based communications. Ah, what do I know...just an idea that's pie-in-the-sky from an old retired guy :).

I tried circular a few years back, only found one station with some odd game-of-chance.

Don't laugh, but is this a good basic test for an LNBF??

Would be interesting to try this using a Bluetooth xmitter instead of a microwave as Bluetooth's about same frequency as microwave ovens.

What we have gain and lost in FTA Ku band world in 2019?

Not sure but there seems to be fewer channels on 97W. I used to get over 200 now only about 180. Not a complaint, just an observation. Could also be due to my neighbor's pine tree that has grown much taller and is directly in the way. Maybe I can pay him to cut it down and replace with...

    Satlink WS-6906 problems among others.

LNB's are cheap enough, if in doubt just replace. But Mike also has a good point, make sure you are selecting the correct Local Oscillator frequency (s).

What we have gain and lost in FTA Ku band world in 2019?

Can't say there were any earth shattering changes on Ku from this neck of the woods, other than 34.5 W adding Caribbean FTA. Hopefully others have some new news.

Glad to meet you Argaz and welcome. There is a learning curve with FTA but the folks on this forum collectively have centuries of experience so you've come to the right place. You can also check hypermegasat.com, he's a reputable dealer just like the ones mentioned in previous posts. Do a...

    Satlink WS-6906 problems among others.

Welcome doorguru. Did you make sure to adjust your skew for the best signal, assuming your dish is a stationary one? Just changing LNB should not have made that big of a difference I think. Good luck and hope you get it cleared up and keep the wife happy. A happy life is a happy wife as the...

Getting back into the FTA game

Kitty glad to see you back. Hope your station gets up and running. Landlords are funny, years back I wanted to put a ham radio vertical on the roof of our apartment house. Landlord said okay but he'd have to raise the rent a bit to cover wear and tear on the roof hi hi. I decided to pay the...
