Compare Shaw service with Direct or E*

I'm actually going to have to disagree with you on this one. There are definitely places where the limitations of the MPEG2 encoding really come through on Shaw -- especially when it comes to macroblocking on fast motion. The TSN SportsCentre intro is the most obvious example that I can...

Value for my 3 yr-old Starchoice 505HD receiver?

Indeed. With the 6xx series now released that will support Shaw's future direction of DVB-S2 and MPEG4, I foresee the value of the 5xx series will be dropping like a rock.

Sportsnet One on Bell. . . finally!

I'd include RDS in that list as well.

    SportsNet One on Shaw Direct

398 had the guide information for the Leafs/Sens game last night, but I'd just get a blank screen when trying to tune it. (no subscription pop-up) Not sure if it was an intended blackout, or a bug I hit with the 630.

    SportsNet One on Shaw Direct

I'm on the new guide, so last night LeafsTV was mapped to 394 "SNCANH" (SportsNet Canucks HD) At least Shaw has fewer RSNs to sort through than, say, DirecTV. ;-)

    SportsNet One on Shaw Direct

Finding the pre-season games has been like going on a treasure hunt. I eventually found the LeafsTV HD broadcast for the Leafs / Sens game tonight, but it was on the RSN Canucks channel?

No Sportsnet ONE for Bell TV??

Looks like SportsNet ONE is going to be more critical for hockey this season: The way that reads it sounds like blackout restrictions will still apply?

What's the status of ordering Starchoice (Shaw Direct) in the U.S.?

Purchase gear, install gear, call Shaw. They'll set you up and activate the account over the phone, so long as you supply them with a Canadian address and phone number.

    sunday ticket ??

Didn't they add those around the same time the NHL Center Ice channels were taken out of the guide again? My read on that wasn't that they added 3 new channels, they just re-mapped the 2 Center Ice + 1 Sunday Ticket channel back into the general PPV pool for the summer.

    Magic Jack is your friend!

Shaw/StarChoice has called me in recent weeks to make sure things were going well with my satellite service. I pay $1.29/mo for my Canadian DID at voip.ms, with usage billed at 1c/min in 6 second billing increments.

Free NHL GameCenter Live w/ Centre Ice

Odd -- I submitted the form w/ ShawDirect for my code, got it the following day, and it worked as advertised when I punched it in on the Gamecenter site. I think there were spaces after the code though -- did you copy and paste it so there were no spaces?

Free NHL GameCenter Live w/ Centre Ice

Both Shaw Direct and Bell appear to be offering free NHL GameCenter Live (online streams of games) if you order Centre Ice. Bell: Bell TV Online ShawDirect: NHL GameCenter LIVE™ - Shaw Direct With more games being produced in HD this season, crazily you might be able to see more HD...

You can't add anything to Digital Lite except the $2.99 "HD Sports" option which only gets you TSN in HD. Centre Ice can only be added to the Bronze package or above.

    shawdirect help

Not to speak on behalf of Iceburg, but I can answer this: Neither Bell nor Shaw will carry MSG in HD. It's only available in the local territories for which MSG/MSG+ is the RSN -- the contract dispute has not been resolved with the NHL, so the HD feeds will not be available via Center Ice on...

ordering Bell PPV outside of Canada is it worth the risk?

Again, CID and ANI are different elements of the call. CID can be populated or not as it is an end-user feature, but the ANI component is always present as part of the call setup because the telcos use this to maintain call records for reciprocal compensation. (ANI applies to every call, not...

What's the status of ordering Starchoice (Shaw Direct) in the U.S.?

I just ordered the gear / got signed up a month ago so I can answer these. I ordered through KUSat, no issues whatsoever. They called to confirm the order and asked if I needed broker service. (I didn't -- I'm using a friend's Toronto address and a VoIP Toronto DID) The gear I received...

    Star Choice NFL ?

Someone posted on another forum that channel 267 just got renamed to NFLHD2, so maybe there will be a couple more HD games this season. Regardless, I think I'll be one of the dozen or so people not spending the extra $15 for the combo. An addiction to one sport (hockey) is all I can really...

    Star Choice NFL ?

Given what DirecTV charges for Sunday Ticket, it's a little surprising to see that after buying Centre Ice I could get the NFL:ST subscription for $15 CAD. It almost makes me wish I was a football fan.

    Interested in Canadian TV

Good catch! I'm with essentials to be able to add the Sports pack to get TSN2 HD & SportsNet feeds -- was thinking about dropping down to the Lite package after the 09-10 hockey season but I guess I'll have to wait a year on having that option.
