    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

Correct. Its a standard procedure - start from restoring default settings and FW. ;) One doesn't rush to crash his PC when it hangs - there are diagnostic procedures in place for everything technical. This is not related to SW Reviews thread anyway.

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

You'll be better off by saving your Channel file to Flash and doing system restore, then reloading the channel file from Flash, if erased (try Blindscan if it works first). You may need to do a system cleanup from old files if that doesn't helps, using Cleanup FW and procedure posted elsewhere...

    10x1 DiSEqC Switch Review

I've read your report, and it sounds like a very promising DiSEqC Switch. What committed DiSEqC Switch model you tested it with? Can you test it with a commonly used in NA Multiswitch model? Can you post links to Programmers you found on the web?

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

pwrsurge You probably missed my post about the same thing. :) Or you just wanted to add a legal aspect to it, which seems to be well argumented. However, I think various hardware limitations of the STB dictate modulation choice, since the importer would be happy to add S2 reception, if only...

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

I always try discouraging people to bash receivers for a simple reason: bashing will not make someone stealing TV signal look innocent; and likewise for a honest TV watcher there is no need to bash any receiver to remain innocent, claiming it doesn't do...what its spec never said it can do. ;)...

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

There is no video and/or audio interruption on any CLEAR VIDEO channels, when using recent releases of SV 8000HD firmware.

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

While generally encouraging you to continue posting your findings, may I suggest you to look objectively at them: 1. At this time there are just a few STBs on the market capable to process sat TV signals with 4:2:2 color space and adherent to DVB-S2 standard. These things are not "simple" as...

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

In fact, your 8psk module might not be that bad, if you think again about it. At least you can watch clear HDTheater channel and similar clear 8psk Turbo channels, as others reported.

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

Hopefully, jwwbrennan will find some courage to open the STB's cover and look at models of his A-1 board soldered chips. ;) I suspect however, it contains only a demod chip, but no tuner chip, meaning that heavy lifting of signal tuning is still trusted to SV 8000HD DVB-S NIM tuner, soldered on...

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

Its nice to have dummy UI options to encourage buyers, and Sonicview is not the only one in that category - just read through AZBox section threads. As a first step of your interesting adventure, I'd suggest you to find out, what model of 8psk Turbo add on Board you have installed in your SV...

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

Several STB importers offer 8psk Turbo add on boards for their STBs. Sonicview is one of them, and at least 3 generations of such add on module were offered over time for SV 8000HD, all based on different Broadcom demodulator chipset models with varying capabilities. However, NONE such board...

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

I guess the "coders" were asked to make 8psk Turbo module default based on the importer's assumptions about the STB usage pattern, and to avoid delay in channels switching. However, the STB owner should be given a fare chance to correct such assumptions by saving Internal Tuner as default...

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

As a forum participant, just wanted to remind you guys that this thread is devoted to technical aspects and review of Sonicview 8000HD STB. It may be a good place to talk about some firmware bugs as well. But any talks about legal issues and the STB Importer actions are better suited and usually...

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

wildcatae I won't comment on other things, but the SV 8000 firmware bugs listed above were reported on various forums and of course sent to Sonicview official support multiple times over 2+ years by many people. It changed nothing. Why? I assume, fixing these bugs requires spending some cash...

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

Could you elaborate a bit on this notion. Its usually expected that subsequent firmware releases should incorporate more bug fixes, add more features and have existing features improved. It always depends on the end user, what feature set they're going to use. From that prospective, installing...

Review: Azbox Elite HD FTA Receiver

Why then AZBox brand owner OpenSat buys these from Dongsi and ships them all over Europe and Latin America? Were you thinking, OpenSat makes AZBox receivers in their company backyard in Portugal? :) How about this one: Hitopsat - one of the largest CN Sat. STB makers? I still wonder, who...

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

I can add a few more to your Bug List above (incomplete as they always are), which I found posted on the web: - STB at times freezes and needs rebooting when adding or saving a channel PIDs manually; - when setting a motor position, yellow Exit Button doesn't work; - Red, Green, Yellow and...

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

Thanks for in-depth explanation, its really useful for most to better understand how this piracy stuff works. Most people think, if you load a factory firmware, you have a clean install. The reality appears to be, same piracy stuff might be hidden in such "factory" firmware, and must also be...

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

That pic you posted looks like a compelling evidence to me. :) Did they know what's inside the file, if it doesn't show up on the screen? May be they just payed for branding of a known package, and the firmware developer cut costs by simply commenting out the bad stuff? As to iHub current...

    Review: Sonicview SV-HD8000

Yes, indeed, I was talking about Viewtech, sorry for the typo. "Forget to encrypt" line with regards to DN HD clear ad channels broadcast for a long time to attract new customers, as other reported, doesn't sound trustworthy. If the legit and pirate software versions closer look the same, as you...

pwrsurge I tend to agree with you, except I think its too early in the game to predict the court ruling. There's a big difference with Coolsat case. Coolsat owner was caught paying hackers to buy a microscope to analyze DN CI card chip, which handles N3 decryption, as was explained. In...
