Signal Quality is now Signal Margin?

I was rescanning for locals after the repack here. I then checked the satellite signal. Signal Strength hasn’t changed, but instead of “Quality”, it now says “Margin” on the bottom bar. It was 99, and now it’s 75. Is this signal-to-noise ratio?

Need some guidance aiming dish for Orby.

Don’t use the center of the bolt. There should be a flat edge in front of the bolt. Use it instead.

Need some guidance aiming dish for Orby.

You should definitely use the marks on the dish mount. If you have a level and plumb pole, it should be accurate enough to get a signal.

    SS 84 Max

The satellite footprint is good enough in places for an 18” dish, but only on clear days. As soon as any rain even comes close, it’d drop out.

    SS 84 Max

84 should be fine. My SQ is about that, but I have a diplexer and splitter in the line. Try unplugging the box and plugging it back in.

    Which dish for self install?

Nice. I used the same equipment. The Winegard 76cm dish works perfectly with the SL-1 I get 99/94 in TN. The only time I have outages is during very heavy downpours. The locals don’t go out, though! With DirecTV, they went out first.

    Orby Ota Guide request

Mine does the same thing. We have a local UHF repeated on VHF here. I have a good signal on both.

OTA signal split to a 2nd OTA TV Only.

I used a power passing 2300Mhz splitter from Amazon. I have three receivers on it.

    Newsmax

If it’s free, that’s fine. DirecTV and Dish, (and OTA even) have loads of infomercial channels. I block them if I don’t want them.

    Newsmax

It’s not on OTA here. I was wondering when they’d add another channel. I don’t watch news, I just read it online. Still, it will make a lot of people happy.

    Did Another Self Install

I set up a system at my mother-in-law’s house. She saw my setup and had been bugging me about it. She only watches a few channels and has been paying over $100/month for DirecTV. She got two receivers from Best Buy, and I got her a 76cm dish with a 2300 MHz splitter and diplexer from Amazon. I...

Orby TV created to help Dish Network and DirecTV merger?

I stand corrected. DirecTV said they had launched their last satellite.

Orby TV created to help Dish Network and DirecTV merger?

I thought it was because DirecTV and Dish are phasing out SD channels, and eventually, satellite signals altogether. That would leave a lot of remote areas begging for TV. Plus, the low price would be attractive in more developed areas, too.

    Yet another...install question

I did have the skew wrong. The dish arm was bent. I got a new dish and it works perfectly.

Announcing the Orby TV Self Installation Kit

It’s great that Orby listened. Not a bad price, either. I have a bigger dish and bigger OTA antenna, but most people would be happy with this.

    Nick Jr. Compression

They use two transponders, but HEVC compression, which means they can put three times as many on one. I would complain, but it’s the only channel I see it on. Plus, my kid doesn’t care. Most, if not all the others look really good.

    Nick Jr. Compression

I don’t think other LNBs will fit the Orby dish. I’m using a 76cm Winegard dish and I just put a new Geosat Pro PLL LNB on it. I think it also did it with the old LNB I had. I have a long cable run. At the dish, my SQ is 95.

    Nick Jr. Compression

One of my kids watches Nick Jr. during the day. Sometimes, it will break up every few seconds. I think the compression is too high. Eventually, it’ll reset and look good again. My SS is 99, and SQ is 85, so I don’t think that’s it. No other channels do it.
  19. 5

    Larger dish

It wouldn’t help the picture quality any; it looks the same due to the compression. It might help if it goes out in the rain. I use a 30” dish and haven’t gotten rain fade. I haven’t had any really heavy storms, yet, though. The Orby dish is 18x24, just like a DirecTV Slimline, I think.

    Installing new receivers.

I was thinking of an FTA dish. If he has the actual Orby dish, then a good splitter is the best idea.

    Installing new receivers.

You might be better off using a dual LNB. You don’t have to use splitters at all. The more splices in the cable, the lower your signal.

    33” FTA Dish for Orby?

I thought so. It gets about 94 at the dish, 84 with 125’ of coax and the diplexer. There was a lot of rain the other day, but no rain fade. It must be the bigger dish and the 2/3 FEC they’re using.
  23. 5

    33” FTA Dish for Orby?

It is really well built. It fits snug in the bracket, so it’s easy to fine tune. You move it 20 degrees either way, and the signal drops off completely. Other ones I’ve used aren’t as accurate. Does it matter how far back it is? I get a little better signal with it pushed all the way in.

    33” FTA Dish for Orby?

I got the GeoSat Pro LNB connected. My SS went up about 4-5 points! I did another local channel scan, and it now gets every channel, even low power. My wife and kids are really happy I got it all working.

    33” FTA Dish for Orby?

This is possibly the most sensitive OTA tuner I’ve ever seen. I get all the channels I got with the amp, except for one LPTV, which is running only 3000 watts!
