    Orby has gone dark!

That's why I hope someone can tinker with the firmware to support OTA and perhaps, FTA. There's way too many of these boxes floating around to end up in landfills.

    Orby has gone dark!

Found this to be the richest part of the DISH offer, "Activation charges: “No Annual Contract Plan” requires a $150 activation fee and buying a receiver ($50-$350 based on selected equipment) unless exceptions otherwise noted." If I'm reading this right, this offer is no different than any...

Usage after demise: Hacking receiver's and DVR's firmware for something else?

Virgin means I've got four unactivated (never seen a sat signal) DVRs and two receivers in my arsenal. I hoard electronics when they're on sale for others in my life. Beyond my Sony Dash / Chumby resurrection, I use the third-party naf firmware to keep my OBi100 VoIP ATA alive after Obihai...

Usage after demise: Hacking receiver's and DVR's firmware for something else?

Eventually altering the firmware doesn't equate to theft of services, which probably won't exist soon enough. I remember the end times of Voom. I'm putting this out there for people to ponder while Orby TV is on life support. It would be great if we could use the receivers as a nice OTA DVR with...

Usage after demise: Hacking receiver's and DVR's firmware for something else?

I'm accepting Orby TV's fate that it is not long for this world. I have unactivated / virgin Orby TV receivers and DVRs purchased during Best Buy sales. Is there an archive of firmware updates? Hoping someone can figure out a use for these puppies similiar to how the Sony Dash and Chumbys are...

Orby Saves the Day (or more) in the California Power Blackout

It's hard to digest this (no politics) when I constantly read about fake news (CNN) and the conspiracy to keep Fox News off Orby. I'd like MSNBC, but I realize the carriage fee and bundling requirements of NBCUniversal would be too onerous.

@Orby corp: Cheap channels like Buzzr, France 24, & NHK World

Buzzr is not merely delivered as an OTA subchannel, its also on satellite and available through a stream. GSN / Game Show Network is Buzzr's competition owned by Sony and AT&T. The Weather Channel (think GSN) cost Dish too much, so they now have WeatherNation (think Buzzr). If you're rural or in...

@Orby corp: Cheap channels like Buzzr, France 24, & NHK World

BBC probably isn't offered because BBC America takes contractual precedence since it's part of AMC Networks. As far as Buzzr, it's FremantleMedia North America's only channel, and it's offered on Dish and now Pluto. I'll make a huge assumption that Buzzr costs very little to carry. Buzzr would...

@Orby corp: Cheap channels like Buzzr, France 24, & NHK World

@Orby Corporate Please consider adding the cheap seat channels like Buzzr (need my Match Game fix) and international news channels like France 24 and NHK World. I'm under the assumption carrying these international news channels wouldn't put a dent in your programming budget.

Orby TV created to help Dish Network and DirecTV merger?

The paranoid side of me wonders if Orby TV was created to show regulators that a merger between Dish Network and DirecTV wouldn't hurt consumers, since another satellite television provider now exists. Orby Tv, LLC in Dover, DE | Company Information & Reviews

Orby TV OTA EPG data through satellite or local signal?

Anyone know how the Orby boxes receive their over-the-air (local channels through antenna) EPG (electronic program guide) data. Is it through the OTA signal or via the satellite and provided by Gracenote or TiVo/Rovi? Are local logos part of Orby's EPG?
