New 240Hz HD set...should I upgrade HDMI cables?

Yes they have. Some of the LG and Samsung players load discs faster than the PS3.

    Samsung 42" RP went nuts

Ouch... could be the light engine. I take it that it's no longer under warranty?

    120 Hz LCD vs. Plasma

A rear projection DLP has better energy savings than both. I would buy a plasma (better PQ and wider viewing angles from the Panny's and Pioneers hands down) over both unless I had a room with a lot of light/windows (reflections) or needed a display smaller than 42". I would only buy a LCD if...

    $2,000 - this weekend

For a bright room, I wouldn't recommend a plasma. LCD's and (especially) DLP's are actually better in bright environments than plasmas. That Sammy should serve you well. Most will say the 3 S's (Sony, Sharp, Samsung) as well as Toshiba tend to have really good LCD's. The two P's (Pioneer...

    Good deal today on Woot

Well the 65" Sharp that was 10k is now $6k or so? I consider this an excellent deal. If I were in the market for a display, I would totally jump on this.

    LCD OR DLP?

You all forget that LCD's and plasmas lose their brightness, too. When, they're done, they're done. Rear projection sets just need a new bulb. Front projectors use bulbs, too. They're still around. Therefore, a need for replacement bulbs will still exist. Lamp life is waaaaaaaay more...

    LCD OR DLP?

My 57" Mits has PiP. The bulbs (sans housing) are about $150 on E-bay. Mits is trying to get them down to less than $100.

Opted out of a new HDTV

No worries on eliminating the TV--times are rocky at best. It's better to conserve and save $$$$. However, I have to ask WTF would put a front projector in his/her bedroom? I can see a 60" plasma, but a front projector even with a drop down screen? The noise and the aesthetics of the whole...

    Which HDTV is better ?

CRT>Plasma>Laser (DLP)>(bulb or LED) DLP~LCoS>LCD>RP LCD in terms of general picture quality assuming all are top brands that are professionally calibrated. If you have the space and the light control definitely consider a front projector!

Your wallet really hopes your gut is wrong if that display is out of warranty and it's the light engine!

question: Samsung plasma or Sony LCD?

I would say neither... Get a Panny or Pioneer plasma!

Sony takes a shot at Vizio

I would put Pioneer and Panny (plasmas) above Sony LCD's. Sony is just mad that Vizio is forcing them to bring prices down. Sucks for them that there are no studio(s) they can buy to force Vizio, Olevia, Westinghouse, etc. to surrender.

Any type of site for pro tv picture settings?

AVSforum as well as htguys.com are good sources for starting points. Please note that these are simply starting points.

    Small HDTV For Mother's Day

Those new Vizio 32" plasmas are available for $500. Vizio isn't horrible. Neither are Olevia and Westinghouse. I would put them all just a hair below Philips to be honest with you. Avoid Polaroid, Ilo, Sceptre and Emprex. Mother's Day already passed. If I new your maximum budget, I...

Any Info on Mitsubishi 2008 Lineup/Laservue?

It's way out of my budget, but I'm definitely looking at them when they come out this fall. Black levels of plasma with the brightness tolerance of DLP. (I do believe that DLP is brighter than LCD.) Gimme some of that! :hungry:

    Kid + Windex + DLP= Sad Dad

$100 as in one Benjamin? That's dirt cheap. You can get service manuals off E-bay for $5. However, if it's only $100 for a set that's still worth at least $2k, I wouldn't cry too much.

    DVI-HDTV to HDMI ?

Stop. You don't have component audio in. There's no such thing. You have left/right channel inputs in for your component video connections. I also don't believe you have toslink audio in either. That toslink audio on the display is for outputting to your receiver/preamp dolby digital...

Is DLP on the way out

To me the picture of DLP stomps LCD into the ground. Plasma beats both, of course. Everything is going to LCD due to the smaller form factor. The laser will help DLP, but I don't think prices will be competitive enough to compete with LCD.

DisplaySearch: more LCD TVs sold worldwide than CRT!

The space and power requirements are too great for CRT in many parts of the world. In the US, it's more about aesthetics. Too bad--CRT is leaps and bounds above LCD in PQ.

High Def Owners, what TV do you have?

32" 768p Westinghouse LVM-32w6 LCD -- a bit small for my master bedroom -- a 50" would be ideal for my viewing distance but a 37" would be better to fit the nook between my door and windows 57" 1080p Mitsubishi 57732 DLP -- too small for my great room but I only had a $1500 (not a $2500 budget...

    Plasma TV, without coaxial input

Hemi, a lot of early plasmas were "HD-Ready" rather than HD. IMHO, any display with a resolution less than 1280x720 is digital but not really HD. Let's not forget there are SD CRT's that accept OTA 1080i signals but are not HD displays.

DLP TV's price going down big time!

Projectors unfortunately (essentially) require a darkened room. I would hate to have to block out all the arched windows, etc. in my great room. However, I do love their PQ. I only have one bathroom in my house with no windows. I can't see putting a projector in there. Offtopic: IW, I...
