    8/31/2021 Band Opening

Did a scan around 7:30am on 8/31, received digital TV stations from MD and Washington, DC using a Winegard antenna and preamp pointed in a SW direction. WDCW, WDVM, WFDC and WPMT were the four stations receive, not bad for my NJ location. All stations were fading in a out though. Exciting...

    Two Analog TV Stations Received

Thanks for all the replies. Geronimo may be correct, it's probably from CT. Reason is that there was a commercial for Shen Yun dance company at the Palace Theater in Stamford. Of course it could be a station from NY that covers CT. I live in Western NJ so it was definitely a DX station.

    Two Analog TV Stations Received

Haven't posted in a while. Hope everyone's doing well. On a routine scan of OTA TV stations on 7/9/2021 around 2:30 pm local time in my area I picked up 2 analog TV stations. Both were transmitting the same material but one was clear, other was snowy. Clear one was on RF channel 4 (low VHF)...

Anybody else here like “Antenna Man” on YouTube?

I've exchanged numerous emails with him regarding antennas and OTA TV in general. He always responds and has valuable experience to share. Back in the '60's I worked for a TV-Radio-Appliance shop and installed TV antennas so what he is doing reminds me of my youth. He's definitely found...

Anybody else here like “Antenna Man” on YouTube?

He's an antenna genius. Am glad to see a young person doing this type of work as most of those who did these installations are long gone.

Neat story about last remaining analog NTSC TV stations

Tyler is an OTA whiz. We have two analog stations that I still receive here in NJ, but weakly.

Odd Couple Marathon Today on Decades TV

Whoopee, Felix and Oscar marathon today. I get Decades on WDPN-TV in DE. Yagi pointed in that direction for the best signal from here in NJ.

New OTA Antenna Installation - Winegard YA7000C Review

Reason I bought his antenna is that it includes low VHF. I also bought the preamp just to be on the safe side.

New OTA Antenna Installation - Winegard YA7000C Review

I hooked up the YA7000 and preamp to my HP spectrum analyzer. If you look at the attachment, you can see a spectral scan of the low VHF (54 - 88 mHz) TV band. There are three major 6 mHz-wide peaks. To the left is WDPN TV, Channel 2, 54 - 60 mHz, from Delaware with a good signal. Center...

New OTA Antenna Installation - Winegard YA7000C Review

Well, prior to this antenna I was using one of those "150 mile" antennas that are cheap and have a rotor built in. It worked well on UHF but not as well on VHF as the Winegard. Winegard's much much better.

    OTA Signal Meter

The TinySA looks great. USA inventory was pretty much non-existent when I was shopping for one about a month ago. Wonder if that has changed.

Light TV to rebrand to TheGrio.TV

Seen this one coming up soon too. The new year hopefully will bring new channels and maybe some TV DX.

New OTA Antenna Installation - Winegard YA7000C Review

A Winegard YA7000C VHF/UHF yagi plus a Winegard BoostXT preamp (18 dB) were erected yesterday at the home QTH. I wanted something to pick up low VHF TV (54 - 88 MHz) channels and this antenna has low VHF elements, plus high VHF (174 - 216 mHz) and UHF. Due to the recent snow I erected it...

Question on recent decreasing signal quality

Welcome to the forum! I experience signal loss daily when the sun rises and some channels disappear completely, but they're the weaker ones. Has to do with noise generated by old Sol. But your problem is different so I suggest you check out antennamanpa's Youtube videos on OTA reception...

    Live OTA TV on Smartphone

Great idea. We've used similar dongles many years for HF/VHF/UHF radio reception.

    OTA Signal Fade at Dawn

I think the last FCC channel repack has definitely affected the reception of some TV stations.

    OTA Signal Fade at Dawn

I agree, higher or more gain will be helpful. Coax is only about 13 feet of RG/6 so very little loss.

    OTA Signal Fade at Dawn

This seems to be the most plausible explanation.

    OTA Signal Fade at Dawn

Tropo does occur at this QTH but is rare. Frequency dependence does not seem to be a factor. When tropo does occur I can get stations farther away than usual.

    OTA Signal Fade at Dawn

Temperature inversions do occur rarely here. Fading occurs only with distant stations such as WPPT. I use rabbitears as a guide, yes. I use one of those 150 mile (more like 50 mile) rotatable antennas. I know they have a bad reputation but mine works for me, with the exception of the...

    OTA Signal Fade at Dawn

No, it occurs in all directions where the antenna is pointed.

    OTA Signal Fade at Dawn

From the comments (and I thank all of you) I think the answer is to increase antenna height or get an antenna with more gain.
