Adventures in dish hunting and what we find

Fred, it does great in snow until the weight of the snow pulls the elevation off ;-) We had about 2 inches of extremely wet heavy stuff on the lower edge of my BUD that took out c band monday, nothing a couple of minutes with a snow rake didnt take care of. Before I cleaned the snow off I pulled...

35mph winds knocks satellite out of line

I used smooth sided barrels for exactly that reason, thanks for pointing that out!

Adventures in dish hunting and what we find

Hey Fred, so sorry to be late in answering this :-D I would grab that perf BUD in an instant, it looks to be made of the same material my 10' channel master is made of which is great for KU. NICE find! you might find that "ding" comes out just by pushing on with your hand, if it is made from...

35mph winds knocks satellite out of line

Chefwan, sorry to hear bout that. To see just how much wind load can be generated by a large dish, take a look at this link: http://www.geo-orbit.org/sizepgs/grndpole.html#anchor27689 I have my pole set up on a pole mount that is made of two 55 gallon drums welded together, buried in the...

    Sci-Fi, G5 18 not working this morning

I just checked here and Sci Fi is working fine on g5 tp 18 analog.
  8. drhydro

    Can you confirm, please ?

g4 is the old name for g16. The nets are there and in the clear, they show up as scambled on my recievers also.

    Motorola DSR-922 & Digital Signals

where at in the arc (lowest, highest, middle) is hbo at for you? The reason i ask is it could be a declination problem. Too much declination will cause loss of signal on sats in the middle of the arc, not enuff will cause loss on the ends of the arc.

why can't i record off the big dish?

Time to climb out of the pit ;-)

    Birds and Bird Droppings.....

Good Luck and let us know how it works :D

    Birds and Bird Droppings.....

hmm, if they are landing on upper lip of the dish and then doing the dirty deed, maybe making the top lip of the dish uncomfortable to stand on might help. Metal "back tacking" strips (used in upholstery) or carpet edge tacking strips affixed to the upper lip of the dish comes to mind....

    Omg!!!.....How much?

Put that way the price is actually not that bad, esp when you look at the price of some of the PPV events. Heck the Get it all pack at NPS is 100 per month (monthly), with no PPV's.

What kind of wire to use for polorotor?

Tony, I have used phone line in the past, it worked great. The only problem with phone wire is it solid core, so it wont take a lot of flexing. Your 20 guage wire should work fine also, and will probably take being flexed a lot better than solid core wire.

    Pansat 2700-a

I have a pansat 2700a hooked up to my BUD and i love it. Good blind scan, AC-3 audio, and will control a polarotor. When used with a vbox II you can use one remote to control all functions on your BUD with a 2700a . Cant ask for much else ;-) BTW, there is a review on the 2700 in the reviews area.

Roof Mount a 8 footer. Possible?

I have seen a few "interesting" c band installs around here. Just the other day I saw an 8'er on 20'+ pole attached to the side of a house. There is another c band dish that is local that is a 10'er on a free standing pole with guide wires and has to be at least 30' above ground!

Unable to get clear Analog Picture

sounds like you have to re-store all of your sat positions because your reciever lost "count" of where the sat dish is. When you dumped your dish, your position sensor got thrown off of its "count", so it is "lost" and your reciever doesnt really know where your dish is pointed at. Try bumping...

Can you use a sidecar stand alone?

Tony, yeah it does, and on a frequent basis. I have mine set so it automatically goes to g1 and downloads the guide when the 4dtv is off at night. If I dont turn it off and allow it to download the guide at night, i find i have to go back to g1 pretty frequently during a day of viewing. Too...

Can you use a sidecar stand alone?

Tony, I would give it a shot. There is some cool free KU DC2 stuff up there, and I have seen a digital package for x4 (g16 ku) that looked like a good deal. The one downside is you wont be able to use the IPG, you need to see g1/g15 c band for that.

    91,433 and dropping.....

Well, the dishs ARE big, and the equipment IS expensive. Its too bad to see the sub numbers dropping like that, I love c band programing and dread the day when the only way to sub is to use a pizza pan.

Very impressed with C-band "rain/snow fade"

The only time i have lost signal on my 10'er was when there was about 10+ inches of wet heavy snow on the dish. That much weight affected the dish elevation ( i believe).

Dang that must be one of the longer fiber optic cables created by mankind! ;-D

CNN, CNNHL, TBS, TNT, Cartoon will stay analog until further notice

Very cool to hear! I saw a message on my VCII messages the other night concerning these being shut down, nice to know I will still have my programming that I pay for (for a while ;) )

    C Band/KU FTA

If you only want to have one coax run, just put your diseqc switch inside your feedhorn cover ;-) From what i have read, the corotor does a better job of picking up signals on both c and ku than the "all in one" LNBF's (such as the BSC621) do.
